Matthew M. Burg, PhD, professor of medicine (cardiovascular medicine), has spent much of his career investigating how stress and psychological experiences contribute to heart disease and heart disease outcomes. Burg, a clinical psychologist, was recently elected president of the Academy of Behavioral Medicine Research, an organization of scholars elected by their peers in recognition of their work to advance the broad field of behavioral health. In the following Q&A, he speaks about his presidency, recent research, and aspirations for better integrating behavioral and psychological health into cardiovascular medicine.

Physician Associate Program Recognizes Outstanding Members
The following award recipients, selected by the PA Class of 2024, were announced at the Physician Associate Program Commencement on Dec. 9:
Robert L. Camp, MD, PhD, associate research scientist in pathology, received the Outstanding Didactic Course Award for dedication and excellence in the classroom.
Alberto J. Rodriguez, MD, received the Outstanding Preceptor Award for dedication and excellence in clinical education.
David Brissette, MMSc, PA-C, assistant professor and director of the Physician Associate Program, received the Jack Cole Society Award for significant contributions in support of the PA profession.
Tara Herbert, MS, PA-C, assistant professor and director of clinical skills, assessment and remediation, received the Class of 2024 Award for support and dedication to the Yale PA Program and the Class of 2024.
Schwartz Named Fellow of The Hastings Center
Jason L. Schwartz, PhD, associate professor of public health (health policy) and the history of medicine, was elected as a fellow of The Hastings Center, the nation’s preeminent independent research institute for work in bioethics and social and ethical issues in health care, science, and technology. Hastings Center fellows are a group of more than 200 individuals of outstanding accomplishment whose work has informed scholarship and public understanding of complex ethical issues in health, health care, science, and technology.
Sehgal Named to Forbes 30 Under 30
Raghav Sehgal, a senior PhD candidate in the Computational Biology and Bioinformatics (CBB) program, has been named to the prestigious Forbes 30 Under 30 list for North America. This recognition highlights his significant contributions to aging research and the application of computational technologies in biomedicine. Sehgal's work focuses on developing advanced biomarkers for aging and human health. His research integrates epigenetics, artificial intelligence, and geroscience to uncover insights into the biological mechanisms of aging.
Yale New Haven Hospital Wins 2024 ANCC Magnet Prize
The American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) announced that Yale New Haven Hospital received the 2024 ANCC Magnet Prize, sponsored by Press Ganey. The award was presented during the 2024 ANCC National Magnet Conference and ANCC Pathway to Excellence Conference® in New Orleans. The ANCC Magnet Prize is presented to a Magnet-designated organization whose care delivery team initiative best represents exemplary achievements in patient care services, including initiatives in health care delivery and research leading to innovations that result in positive outcomes. The work being recognized was led by David Klemanski, PsyD, assistant professor of psychiatry; Cynthia Bautista, PhD; and Todd Barnes, MPH, and was related to patient experience measurement. In addition, Ena Williams, DNP, senior vice president & chief nursing officer at Yale New Haven Hospital, Mark Sevilla, DNP, and Pia Engstrom, DNP, were recognized for nursing and behavioral health leadership. YCCI Wins Best in Show at 2024 CTSA Meeting
A Yale Center for Clinical Investigation (YCCI) team—including Brian Sevier, PhD, chief operating officer; Eric Borchardt, associate director of research finance & utilization; Carly Lovelett, assistant director of protocol activation & maintenance; Rhonda Paz, senior associate director of innovation strategy transformation; Christine Chaisson, senior associate director of protocol design development feasibility; Kelly Anastasio, senior associate director of clinical trials operations; and David Coleman, MD, director of YCCI—won Best in Show for their poster at the 2024 Clinical and Translational Science Awards (CTSA) meeting. Their poster highlighted YCCI's strides in the use of AI to improve clinical research processes.
