Moliterno Gunel Elected to American Academy of Neurological Surgery
Jennifer Moliterno Gunel, MD, professor and chief of neurosurgical oncology at Yale School of Medicine, has been elected to the American Academy of Neurological Surgery (AAcNS). The AAcNS, founded in 1937, is the most esteemed academic neurosurgical organization in the United States. This prestigious honor reflects Moliterno Gunel’s dedication to clinical excellence and research contributions in neurosurgical oncology. Her election is especially remarkable as she is the first woman from Yale neurosurgery to be admitted to the Academy and the first Yale faculty member in over a decade to be asked to join this highly selective group.
Certain Given the Burroughs Wellcome Fund PDEP Award
Noële Certain, PhD, a postdoctoral associate in the lab of Anthony Koleske, was selected as one of 30 postdoctoral scholars to receive the Burroughs Wellcome Fund Postdoctoral Diversity Enrichment Program (PDEP) Award in partnership with the Charles H. Revson Foundation. The Burroughs Wellcome Fund PDEP Award supports research goals, enrichment of training, and professional development for PDEP scholars. Certain also was selected as one of 16 fellows for the Society for Neuroscience (SFN) Neuroscience Scholars Program. The Neuroscience Scholars Program provides fellows with travel support to the annual SFN conference and training and professional development opportunities. Currently, in the Koleske Lab, Certain is investigating the contribution of the cholinergic system to neurodevelopmental disorders.
Hyman Highlighted as "Featured Member" on MPOG
Jaime Hyman, MD, associate professor of anesthesiology, has been highlighted as the November / December 'Featured Member' on the MPOG (Multicenter Perioperative Outcomes Group) website. This recognition marks her leadership of Yale and YNHHS, with departmental support from Chair Lisa Leffert, to participate in the $20 million PCORI-funded Trajectories of Recovery After Intravenous Propofol vs. Inhaled VolatilE Anesthesia (THRIVE) prospective, randomized clinical trial. THRIVE aims to randomize 12,500 patients across over 20 leading anesthesiology departments to understand patients’ self-reported quality of recovery following inhalation anesthesia vs. total intravenous anesthesia.
Ogbuagu Receives 2024 HIVMA Innovator Award
Onyema Ogbuagu, MD, associate professor of medicine (AIDS) and of pharmacology, has received the Innovator Award from the HIV Medicine Association (HIVMA). The Innovator Award recognizes HIVMA members in early or mid-career who have made outstanding and original contributions to HIV medicine in clinical care, provider education, research, or advocacy.
Olezeski Honored With 2024 CPA Community Partnership Award
The Yale Pediatric Gender Program (YPGP) and its co-founder and director, Christy Olezeski, PhD, associate professor of psychiatry, have been selected as the 2024 recipient of the Connecticut Psychological Association (CPA) Community Partnership Award. The award recognizes YPGP’s work to support transgender- and gender- expansive care for youth and families in Connecticut, and beyond.
Rickey Becomes Department of Urology's First Female Full Professor
In September, Leslie M. Rickey, MD, was officially given full professor designation at Yale, the first woman in the Department of Urology to achieve this rank.
