The FGLI Individuals in Medicine Longitudinal Mentorship Program at Yale is growing. Several faculty, fellows, residents, and medical students turned out earlier this month for the 2nd annual in-person kickoff event, where new and returning members connected with their "pods."
According to one of the founding organizers, Jaime A. Cavallo, MD, MPHS, an assistant professor and urologic surgeon, there are now nearly 300 Yale School of Medicine faculty members, trainees, or students who identify as a first-generation low-income individual in medicine.
The mentorship program is geared toward and driven by them, providing a sense of community and resources - everything from medical career coaching to financial literacy workshops to team building activities.
