  • 00:02Today, so I'm going to try to
  • 00:05get through this quickly so we
  • 00:08can get to questions at the end.
  • 00:11The very first thing I want to note
  • 00:13is you may have noticed that you
  • 00:15received the first notifications e-mail
  • 00:17from Beatrix you have in a while.
  • 00:19About 2 minutes ago.
  • 00:21We discovered a bug with the
  • 00:23notifications the other day.
  • 00:26We sort of patch it over so we
  • 00:28could get notifications out to you,
  • 00:30at least for today.
  • 00:32So if you hadn't been actively logging
  • 00:34in to check these queues every day,
  • 00:36which I assume many people don't,
  • 00:37especially if they're managing some
  • 00:40smaller organizations that don't get so,
  • 00:43so many news articles and
  • 00:46events suggested every day.
  • 00:48You might see a really big
  • 00:50number of items to review.
  • 00:51So I apologize that we weren't
  • 00:53able to get these notifications
  • 00:54out on a regular basis.
  • 00:56We're going to try to get them out
  • 00:58at least once more or a couple
  • 01:01times more next week if we can.
  • 01:04And then we should be able to solve
  • 01:06all of the issues over the break and
  • 01:07get back on a regular schedule when
  • 01:10everybody's back in the new year.
  • 01:12So I do apologize for that if you see
  • 01:14something that's really wonky with
  • 01:16what the counts or anything you saw.
  • 01:18In the e-mail,
  • 01:19just reach out to us and we'll
  • 01:22try to sort it out.
  • 01:25OK, so with that,
  • 01:26I'm going to jump right into this. Umm.
  • 01:31The suggested one goal of this system was to,
  • 01:36because they were already so similar,
  • 01:37really unify how we're managing
  • 01:41suggested articles and suggested events.
  • 01:44It's a lot of the same logic
  • 01:46is being used in both places,
  • 01:48but you will notice that right now,
  • 01:50the suggested articles page
  • 01:52that I'm looking at now,
  • 01:55and the suggested events page.
  • 01:58That I'm loading right here.
  • 02:01Have some slightly different controls right
  • 02:03now we are going to make that more similar.
  • 02:07We were just trying to make sure that we
  • 02:09have all the functionality that we need here.
  • 02:11One notable thing that is missing
  • 02:14is a lot of you.
  • 02:18Are using keywords to make your
  • 02:20news or events appear in specific
  • 02:22places on your website.
  • 02:24You're not necessarily just
  • 02:26approving or rejecting each event
  • 02:29you might be identifying.
  • 02:31Specific articles,
  • 02:32especially pretty popular on,
  • 02:35but also you could do the
  • 02:36same thing for events,
  • 02:37be identifying specific news
  • 02:39or events that you'd like to
  • 02:41maybe feature on your homepage.
  • 02:42And you don't necessarily want every
  • 02:45single news article or event that's
  • 02:47that you approve to necessarily appear
  • 02:50front and center on the home page.
  • 02:53Currently this is something we actually lost,
  • 02:56but we're going to add it
  • 02:58back and profile system.
  • 03:00When I go to my suggested articles page and
  • 03:03I were to open one of these suggestions,
  • 03:06I would have a handy UI right here when I
  • 03:11accepted to add a keyword and that's gone.
  • 03:14So in the meantime it's a
  • 03:16little bit more work.
  • 03:17I need to go into the article and I can
  • 03:20go into people and organizations use my.
  • 03:22Tag right here. Um.
  • 03:26And I could add my tags here.
  • 03:29Of course this I picked a bad article.
  • 03:30It's scheduled for publish
  • 03:32so I can't edit it.
  • 03:35That's a good read.
  • 03:36There's a good reason for that.
  • 03:37We don't want people to be able
  • 03:38to edit things that have already
  • 03:39been scheduled for published.
  • 03:40You have to actually cancel the scheduled
  • 03:44publish before you can edit again.
  • 03:47Um, anyway, so I would have to click edit,
  • 03:50go to my people and organizations
  • 03:52section and then I could tag with my.
  • 03:54I think there is probably, yeah.
  • 03:56We have a private keyword called home.
  • 03:58This is frequently used to.
  • 03:59I think some departments
  • 04:01use other things like.
  • 04:03Just because they started
  • 04:04doing them at different times.
  • 04:06But if you are not featuring your
  • 04:09homepage currently and you'd like to,
  • 04:11using the private tag home is a
  • 04:13perfectly good way to do that because
  • 04:15it's very clear that that is going
  • 04:16to make this go on your homepage.
  • 04:18It depends how it was configured
  • 04:20on the trading side.
  • 04:22So like a lot of other things that.
  • 04:26Integrate between Beatrix and the website.
  • 04:28If you need some help or you have questions
  • 04:30about starting to use this functionality,
  • 04:32reach out to us.
  • 04:34Why SM editor at yale.edu.
  • 04:36We can configure this for you.
  • 04:38Give you some basic instructions
  • 04:40for managing this going forward.
  • 04:43While I'm here, I will do a quick
  • 04:48overview of the keywords themselves.
  • 04:51There are some things in this people and
  • 04:53organizations staff you're going to see
  • 04:55before you actually see the lists of people,
  • 04:57the lists of people and organizations,
  • 05:00and those are the snoozeville
  • 05:02visibility option,
  • 05:03as well as these public and private tags.
  • 05:05First off, news visibility.
  • 05:08If I toggle right now this article is public,
  • 05:12I am going to submit this article.
  • 05:14I would like to share it to as
  • 05:16many different organizations and
  • 05:18websites as is appropriate and I
  • 05:20want anyone to be able to put it.
  • 05:23On their website if they'd like,
  • 05:25so I'm going to keep it as public if
  • 05:29instead maybe I'm uploading articles
  • 05:31for relating to the annual report for
  • 05:35my department or something like that,
  • 05:37maybe it's not doesn't necessarily
  • 05:39have to be super secret,
  • 05:41but it's not something that I really
  • 05:43want the normal person who's access
  • 05:45accessing my the normal person
  • 05:47from the public who's accessing my
  • 05:49department of such and such home
  • 05:51page to see these news articles.
  • 05:53Or even to be able to retrieve them at all,
  • 05:56we can use this private option
  • 05:59and that will number one.
  • 06:00That is not going to suggest this
  • 06:03article to any other organization
  • 06:05unless I explicitly do so myself,
  • 06:07which I'll get to in a second.
  • 06:09Um, but also,
  • 06:10you'll notice that if I've already submitted
  • 06:13this article and I'm going back later,
  • 06:15or if I've already started tagging people,
  • 06:17this is actually going to remove any tags.
  • 06:20That you have currently.
  • 06:22Because if I tag people,
  • 06:24then it's that news article is
  • 06:25going to appear on their profile.
  • 06:28It's and the article is going to
  • 06:29be suggested to the organizations
  • 06:31they belong to.
  • 06:32So we remove those tags if you
  • 06:33indicate this article is private,
  • 06:35because if it's private,
  • 06:36we don't want it appearing on
  • 06:38people's profiles or being suggested
  • 06:40other people's news cues.
  • 06:42So that's what this message is about,
  • 06:44is just telling you, hey,
  • 06:44you're going to lose some of your work or.
  • 06:48Because we can't share this article.
  • 06:50That's all this warning is.
  • 06:51I'm going to say yes.
  • 06:53You'll notice that there were some
  • 06:56suggestions here before that are not missing.
  • 06:58I probably should have scrolled
  • 06:59down before I did that,
  • 07:00but just trust me,
  • 07:02it removed the suggestions
  • 07:03that already existed,
  • 07:05aside from the ones that I
  • 07:06had explicitly said.
  • 07:07And hey,
  • 07:07I would like to add this to my abdominal
  • 07:10imaging organization in the system,
  • 07:13so it'll save that.
  • 07:18OK, that's really it for news privacy.
  • 07:22Public tags versus private tags.
  • 07:25There's not a whole lot of
  • 07:26difference between these two.
  • 07:28They both can be used to filter
  • 07:31lists of news or events to only
  • 07:34those with some specific tag.
  • 07:36The main difference is if I go,
  • 07:40sorry, just scooch my windows
  • 07:43around a little bit if I go to.
  • 07:46The website and I go to search.
  • 07:50Um, and I searched something that
  • 07:52will return some events, for example.
  • 07:56Um, I can then.
  • 07:59From my events facets here I can add a.
  • 08:05Keyword.
  • 08:06I'm the only keywords that I will see.
  • 08:08I could start typing some
  • 08:10keyword that maybe I care about.
  • 08:11The only keywords that are going to
  • 08:14appear here are the public keywords.
  • 08:17Case in point,
  • 08:18we don't think we want things like home,
  • 08:20which we're only really using as A
  • 08:22tag to filter news for our home page.
  • 08:24We don't really want that to appear
  • 08:27here if somebody clicks more news.
  • 08:30So actually,
  • 08:31this is exactly what's going on in
  • 08:33the Yale School of Public Health.
  • 08:34They have a special keyword for
  • 08:36their news that is limiting.
  • 08:38They approve more news than necessarily
  • 08:39what just appears on the home page,
  • 08:41but they just want a subset of that
  • 08:43news to appear on that home page.
  • 08:45So what they're doing is tagging
  • 08:47every article with A tag that's
  • 08:48called it's a private tag called
  • 08:50something like SPH featured,
  • 08:52I think if I click more news.
  • 08:56It will filter to that keyword.
  • 09:00However, we won't really expose it at.
  • 09:03We're not going to expose.
  • 09:04So you see the field,
  • 09:05the facet here for SPH feature,
  • 09:08but that's not going to be exposed.
  • 09:09And her list of keywords.
  • 09:11Actually,
  • 09:11it looks like we've got a little issue here.
  • 09:14We need to make a public keyword private,
  • 09:16probably, but we'll fix that.
  • 09:20We want these to be keywords that are
  • 09:23going to make sense to somebody who
  • 09:25is trying to search by topic here.
  • 09:27So things like home aren't
  • 09:28really helpful for them.
  • 09:30They're not really meaningful.
  • 09:31For someone who's trying to find articles
  • 09:34or events that are on a particular subject.
  • 09:37So that's the reasoning for the breakdown
  • 09:39between public and private tags.
  • 09:41Functionally,
  • 09:41they are the same aside from that one
  • 09:44difference that the public tags will
  • 09:47appear in these faceted searches on the web.
  • 09:50Website.
  • 09:52Umm,
  • 09:53that's really it for public and private tags.
  • 09:57You do need to contact us to add new tags.
  • 10:01This is another situation where it
  • 10:03used to be anyone could add A tag,
  • 10:06but we had so many duplicates.
  • 10:07There were things with typos
  • 10:09and things like that in there.
  • 10:11So we spent lots of time cleaning
  • 10:12it up and then we locked it down.
  • 10:14So you just need to make a request
  • 10:16for us to add it.
  • 10:17We'll make sure it's not some
  • 10:18kind of duplicate,
  • 10:19and then if not,
  • 10:20we will likely just add it for you.
  • 10:23I'm going to take a minute.
  • 10:25Do we have any questions
  • 10:26up until this point?
  • 10:27I see a couple that already
  • 10:29got answered in the chat.
  • 10:31Any other questions from anyone else?
  • 10:33I was just make sure I answered
  • 10:35that question correctly and
  • 10:36did not just tell a lie.
  • 10:40OK, so if people are right now,
  • 10:43events don't appear at all in profiles.
  • 10:45So there's that only
  • 10:46news appears in profiles.
  • 10:50One of our wish list projects,
  • 10:53that's not happening immediately
  • 10:55but hopefully sometime next
  • 10:56year is a redo of the profiles.
  • 10:59The design is kind of limiting now,
  • 11:03would be used to really long scrolling pages.
  • 11:06It's not really necessary for us to break
  • 11:09up everything into tabs like we do today.
  • 11:11So we're going to look into.
  • 11:13It's not going to be a drastic change,
  • 11:15but we are going to sort of reconfigure and
  • 11:17try to get a single page layout however.
  • 11:20News articles will automatically go to
  • 11:22profiles that does not require approval
  • 11:23on the part of the faculty or staff person
  • 11:26who you tag how but the important but is.
  • 11:33When you user,
  • 11:34we will soon be adding a another element
  • 11:37to this dashboard that is called what's
  • 11:40new and it's going to highlight things
  • 11:43like events you've been tagged in,
  • 11:46news you've been tagged in,
  • 11:48and the faculty and staff do
  • 11:50have the ability to go into their
  • 11:53profile and go to this news page.
  • 11:56They can remove themselves
  • 11:57from news if they like here.
  • 11:59All the same thing with events.
  • 12:01They can go to their events page within
  • 12:03their profile and remove any events that
  • 12:06maybe they were incorrectly tagged in.
  • 12:09So they do have control over this.
  • 12:11They're not.
  • 12:11We're not asking that.
  • 12:12They actively approve it.
  • 12:15The concern just was that they might not
  • 12:18approve it so quickly and we want to
  • 12:21make sure that this news it gets distributed.
  • 12:24So yes, there's that they are
  • 12:25going to get a notification.
  • 12:27We're not asking for their
  • 12:28approval at this time.
  • 12:29We haven't had many issues yet.
  • 12:31The issues are few and far between and
  • 12:33it's usually an easy solution because they
  • 12:35do have the ability to remove it themselves.
  • 12:38You all have the ability to in addition,
  • 12:40well,
  • 12:40I mean if you have access to their profile
  • 12:43or to the news article or event in question.
  • 12:46You have the ability to go
  • 12:47multiple different ways.
  • 12:48You can go to their profile
  • 12:49or remove the tag here.
  • 12:50You could go to the news article or
  • 12:53event directly and remove the tag there.
  • 12:55So it's very easy to fix if
  • 12:56we do encounter a problem.
  • 12:57We're not asking for approvals at this time.
  • 13:00Umm.
  • 13:03OK, that's that.
  • 13:04I got a little distracted by keywords
  • 13:06when I was going through the news,
  • 13:09so let me get back to that.
  • 13:12Uh, sorry.
  • 13:12I went on a little keyword tangent there,
  • 13:15so let me get back to.
  • 13:17My suggested news list and you'll see
  • 13:20all these silly titles that the QA folks
  • 13:24have been using for their test events.
  • 13:27We do have this multi same multi
  • 13:29select function we've added elsewhere,
  • 13:30so if I'd like to, oh, I'm glad I did that.
  • 13:34Importantly,
  • 13:35the multi select feature is only
  • 13:37going to work if you filtered
  • 13:39to a single organization.
  • 13:41Um.
  • 13:43This is because it's just really
  • 13:45confusing to think about.
  • 13:50Approving a single event.
  • 13:53Well, sorry, not a single event,
  • 13:55but multiple events to multiple
  • 13:57calendars or organizations that
  • 13:59you have access to at once.
  • 14:01We just think it would be very
  • 14:03easy to make mistakes that way.
  • 14:04It actually wasn't totally clear
  • 14:05in the UI that this is what was
  • 14:08happening at first when we launched
  • 14:09and we had some issues with news
  • 14:11appearing in places where we weren't.
  • 14:13People who were approving it weren't
  • 14:14necessarily expecting it to.
  • 14:15They didn't even know they were
  • 14:17approving the news for multiple
  • 14:18organizations when they were doing so.
  • 14:20So we quickly released a hot fix for that.
  • 14:24That's the reason for this updated UI.
  • 14:26If I try to start selecting multiple
  • 14:28items in this list when I am looking at
  • 14:31suggestions for multiple organizations,
  • 14:33I'm going to get this error that hey,
  • 14:34you can't actually.
  • 14:36Act on multiple articles or events.
  • 14:38If I'm in calendar,
  • 14:40you can't act on multiple articles at
  • 14:43once until I filter to a single org.
  • 14:45OK, so. If I filter to a single org.
  • 14:50I don't want to use my abdominal,
  • 14:52it's not here.
  • 14:54So if I filter to my AIDS care profile,
  • 14:57that's not the best option.
  • 14:58I want something that has multiple.
  • 15:01OK, so I filter to a single org now.
  • 15:05Now when I start selecting multiple items,
  • 15:07you can see that I can approve
  • 15:09everything I've checked off,
  • 15:10or reject everything I've checked
  • 15:11off all at once.
  • 15:12So it might be a little easier
  • 15:15for you rather than.
  • 15:16Just to click everything
  • 15:17you know you want to accept,
  • 15:18easily get those out of the way,
  • 15:20and then you could take a more careful
  • 15:22look at whatever's left and see decide
  • 15:24if you have to accept or reject those.
  • 15:26Um,
  • 15:26you can also filter by submitters.
  • 15:29We don't have all of the filters
  • 15:32I'd like to have here yet.
  • 15:33We're going to work on that.
  • 15:35We really should have a filter for
  • 15:37this type so that you can filter
  • 15:40internal versus external news.
  • 15:41Um, same thing with events.
  • 15:44We do have some limited filters On
  • 15:47this date filter is really handy.
  • 15:49So if you only want to look at a chunk
  • 15:52if you have a ton of events in here.
  • 15:54And you only want to focus on things
  • 15:56that are coming in the next week.
  • 15:58I could say, OK,
  • 16:00that's happening from 12:15 to 12:22,
  • 16:02apply that and it's, you know,
  • 16:05this page didn't change all that much
  • 16:06because there's so many items in this queue.
  • 16:08I probably should have filtered
  • 16:09to an org first, but.
  • 16:12This should be filtering to.
  • 16:16I don't know what's going on with this one.
  • 16:17That's weird.
  • 16:20Oh,
  • 16:21it's an all day event that's happening
  • 16:24every day for the past four months.
  • 16:25So it does fit this filter that I put in.
  • 16:29It should be only filtering to
  • 16:31events that occur on the dates
  • 16:33that I've entered here.
  • 16:34Umm.
  • 16:37Any questions about filtering
  • 16:39approving news here?
  • 16:44I'll just demonstrate this because
  • 16:46the the UI is a little bit different.
  • 16:48Like I said, we're going to try to.
  • 16:50Make this a little more similar because
  • 16:51it's a little odd right now because
  • 16:53news and events are so similar,
  • 16:54but we're presenting it two different ways
  • 16:57once I filter by an organization here.
  • 17:02I should get the ability.
  • 17:07It's not here. OK, well,
  • 17:09Multiselect is one option that we don't have
  • 17:11in events yet that's going to be added soon.
  • 17:13That's going to be part of the
  • 17:16unification of these two UI, so.
  • 17:20If there's some data point that's not
  • 17:22on here that you think could be helpful,
  • 17:25please let us know.
  • 17:26We are limited by real estate,
  • 17:28of course, but.
  • 17:32If there's something, maybe there's
  • 17:34something more critical than status.
  • 17:35I'm obviously not going to want
  • 17:37to approve canceled events,
  • 17:38but maybe there's something more critical
  • 17:39than status would be helpful to see here.
  • 17:42Just let us know because we will be
  • 17:45tweaking these lists a bit. Umm.
  • 17:50I think that's if if people
  • 17:53have specific questions,
  • 17:54now would be a good time to ask.
  • 17:57As far as keywords and approving
  • 18:00or rejecting news goes,
  • 18:02that's really all there is to it.
  • 18:05We're trying to make your lives easier
  • 18:07by making quick links to the stuff from
  • 18:10this dashboard needs review section
  • 18:11as well as the notification emails.
  • 18:13When they're functioning
  • 18:14properly and you receive them.
  • 18:16Those will also give you a QikLink
  • 18:19to approve or your news and events.
  • 18:23But yeah, if you have questions,
  • 18:24I'd love to start trying to address those.
  • 18:29Mark will a campus group event
  • 18:31ever appear? And suggested events.
  • 18:37Only if you have set up well.
  • 18:44Probably not. It would only
  • 18:46appear if somebody who did not
  • 18:48have access to the calendar.
  • 18:50Found that event.
  • 18:53So this is a little weird.
  • 18:54I'd have to go to all events. Umm.
  • 19:00So I believe this is imported
  • 19:02from campus groups, yes, so.
  • 19:04Usually what would happen is you as
  • 19:06the admin of your calendar would
  • 19:08probably be the one who's looking for
  • 19:10these events to add to your calendar,
  • 19:13the only way they'd show
  • 19:15up in suggested events.
  • 19:16Would be if somebody else who did not have
  • 19:19access to approved to your calendar said,
  • 19:22looked at this event and said oh maybe.
  • 19:26Internal medicine is interested in
  • 19:27putting this on their calendar,
  • 19:29and they could suggest it, but it would be.
  • 19:30I don't know why somebody would
  • 19:32be doing this if they would.
  • 19:33Probably if they're looking for events that
  • 19:35they want to suggest internal medicine,
  • 19:37it's very likely that they
  • 19:39have this access already,
  • 19:41so when they hit suggest it would
  • 19:42just automatically be approved.
  • 19:44So it's possible,
  • 19:45but very unlikely that somebody is going
  • 19:47to decide to suggest a campus groups
  • 19:49event unprompted to your calendar.
  • 19:53We can set up a subscription so that if
  • 19:56there is some calendar in campus group,
  • 19:58some group in campus groups with events
  • 20:00that you know you're interested in,
  • 20:02we can set it up so that there's
  • 20:05an automatic pull of those campus
  • 20:07groups events into your calendar,
  • 20:10but I believe those don't get.
  • 20:12I honestly would have to go back and check.
  • 20:14I believe those just automatically
  • 20:15get added to the calendar.
  • 20:17I don't think they go on the approval queue.
  • 20:20But don't quote me on that because
  • 20:22I needed to double check. Umm.
  • 20:26Any other questions about campus groups?
  • 20:28We do have this integration
  • 20:29with campus groups.
  • 20:30I should have mentioned
  • 20:31that a little bit earlier.
  • 20:33If there is some student
  • 20:35calendar being managed,
  • 20:36managed on campus groups that has lots
  • 20:38of events that are relevant to you,
  • 20:40you probably want to check
  • 20:42out those events here.
  • 20:44You can also, like I said,
  • 20:47set up that subscription.
  • 20:48We can configure that for you
  • 20:50so that events from a particular
  • 20:52group will automatically be added.
  • 20:54Just contact us if that's
  • 20:55something that might be helpful.
  • 20:56For you.
  • 20:59Um, other events on campus groups or
  • 21:02anything else calendar approval related?
  • 21:11I see Shari's asking.
  • 21:15About how new stories are
  • 21:17appearing if others don't have.
  • 21:21Yeah. No, that's fine.
  • 21:22We could move over to news.
  • 21:23Can you just elaborate a little bit, Sherry?
  • 21:28Like how how news stories are appearing.
  • 21:30So generally the suggested articles you see,
  • 21:34the primary way those are going
  • 21:36to end up there is if somebody
  • 21:38writes an article and they tag a
  • 21:41person who is a member of your org.
  • 21:43That's the usual way to do
  • 21:44it because it's automatic.
  • 21:45People are pretty good about tagging
  • 21:48the staff who are in their article.
  • 21:53There it is also possible for
  • 21:55people to explicitly suggest.
  • 21:57A article or an event to another
  • 22:01organization, I don't know.
  • 22:03It's it's there as an option.
  • 22:05I honestly don't know how often that
  • 22:08happens that somebody is writing up
  • 22:10a news article and they think, oh,
  • 22:11this might be handy to have on such
  • 22:13and such website that I don't manage.
  • 22:15They can do it. It's an option that's there.
  • 22:17That is a way that's articles and events
  • 22:21could end up in your approval queues.
  • 22:24But yeah,
  • 22:25the primary way is from the
  • 22:27people tags and the membership
  • 22:29of those people that are tagged.
  • 22:34Got it. And that my question was
  • 22:37more how actual news stories are
  • 22:40appearing now on our news feed.
  • 22:43But I I don't wanna, I didn't wanna
  • 22:45take this time if if other folks
  • 22:47had more specific questions to to
  • 22:49what you're going over right now.
  • 22:52Well, once you know it's,
  • 22:55I think we should just jump around
  • 22:57and answer whatever questions people
  • 22:58have because it's all pretty similar.
  • 23:02It's possible I didn't notice this before,
  • 23:05but I. I posted a story.
  • 23:10This morning and there seems to be a
  • 23:13new extra space column on the right
  • 23:15of both the homepage of my news
  • 23:18feed and within that article itself.
  • 23:21Is that. Is that new?
  • 23:23Is that a glitch?
  • 23:24Is that can that be changed?
  • 23:27So we decided to reverse these columns.
  • 23:29This actually has nothing
  • 23:30to do with the matrix,
  • 23:31but I think it's relevant to everybody here,
  • 23:33so I might as well go over it basically.
  • 23:37We had our columns set up on this
  • 23:40website so that I'm just trying
  • 23:42to think of a good example here.
  • 23:44Um, these columns were configured and
  • 23:46of course I pick a one column page.
  • 23:51Hmm. OK, here's a good example.
  • 23:54So and before we release the
  • 23:57navigation update a couple months ago,
  • 24:00we used to have side navigation that
  • 24:02appeared right here, right where
  • 24:04people's eyes first go on the page.
  • 24:06And that made sense because you might want
  • 24:09to see the other similar pages here before
  • 24:13you actually start reading the content.
  • 24:16Maybe there's some other more relevant page
  • 24:18that you could land on if you came from
  • 24:21Google or a search or something like that.
  • 24:23However,
  • 24:23now that we don't have side navigation,
  • 24:26particularly with a page like this,
  • 24:28it just looked really,
  • 24:30really odd to have this CTA,
  • 24:33which is sort of auxiliary content.
  • 24:35It's secondary to the main point of the page,
  • 24:37which is to talk about this
  • 24:40visiting elective program.
  • 24:42People are coming to this page to read
  • 24:44about the visiting elective program,
  • 24:45and the very first thing they would see,
  • 24:47because this side,
  • 24:48the smaller side column appeared on
  • 24:50the left instead of the right, is.
  • 24:52This elective sub internship listing link.
  • 24:55It was just kind of awkward
  • 24:57because the way people read web
  • 24:59pages is kind of like in an F.
  • 25:01They start at the top, go left to right,
  • 25:04at least English speakers and other
  • 25:06people who read languages left to right.
  • 25:08They start at the top of the page,
  • 25:09go left to right,
  • 25:11all the way down.
  • 25:12Um,
  • 25:12so this just makes a lot more sense for
  • 25:14conveying the most important information
  • 25:16that's on this page to the user.
  • 25:19That's why we flip these columns.
  • 25:22Is this creating some kind of
  • 25:23problem on the urology page?
  • 25:24I mean, to be honest,
  • 25:25I have obviously not having the
  • 25:27chance to look at every page yet,
  • 25:29so there might be some weird unintended.
  • 25:32Consequences here.
  • 25:33No I it just one. I I didn't.
  • 25:38I didn't notice exactly what was different,
  • 25:41but something was clearly different.
  • 25:42Although when I go into an actual news story,
  • 25:46the one I just posted this morning,
  • 25:48which is that pet imaging one. Yes.
  • 25:50Now there's just this like column to
  • 25:53the right with nothing in it is can.
  • 25:56So that column to the right with
  • 25:58nothing in it used to be on the left,
  • 26:00OK? And there was always that space.
  • 26:02It was always there and now
  • 26:03it's just to the right.
  • 26:04And honestly, the reason why we
  • 26:06keep this here is because if you
  • 26:08have a long paragraph like this,
  • 26:09if we're to stretch.
  • 26:10If it were to stretch the
  • 26:12entire width of the page,
  • 26:13it gets kind of hard to read if
  • 26:15you have to move all the way over
  • 26:17and then your eyes have to go all
  • 26:18the way back to the beginning.
  • 26:19So we're very intentionally if we
  • 26:21have long form content on a page,
  • 26:23we want that buffer there with
  • 26:24that extra side column,
  • 26:26even if it's empty,
  • 26:26because it makes the page much more readable.
  • 26:31Got it. Uh. On the main.
  • 26:37Can you just go to my main news page?
  • 26:44And there's a bug that we're working
  • 26:45to fix in case anybody notices this
  • 26:48icon is not switching properly.
  • 26:49It's really confusing,
  • 26:50but hopefully we'll have a
  • 26:52fix in the next hour or two.
  • 26:56Good news uh, but things seem
  • 26:58to be posting much quicker now.
  • 27:00I made a couple of quick tweaks
  • 27:03after posting that news story
  • 27:05and it was almost immediate. So
  • 27:07OK, so we have been struggling with
  • 27:10these issues of updates you make and
  • 27:12Beatrix not reflecting right away on
  • 27:15the website we just made a change on.
  • 27:18Once. That Tuesday or Wednesday,
  • 27:20I can't remember. Honestly,
  • 27:22that should mollify this issue somewhat.
  • 27:25It's definitely not solved.
  • 27:28If everything's working properly,
  • 27:29any edit you make can be a tricks.
  • 27:32Should be reflected on the
  • 27:34site within 6 minutes. Umm.
  • 27:37Were thought there's still some
  • 27:39bugs that were working out.
  • 27:40So if you are not seeing your update
  • 27:43for like 10-15 minutes or longer,
  • 27:44do you make a ticket with us?
  • 27:46Let us know. Just give us a link to.
  • 27:50The relevant screening Beatrix or the item,
  • 27:54the page that's not updating at
  • 27:56both would actually be great.
  • 27:59And we can look into it and
  • 28:00make sure that gets addressed.
  • 28:02This is the top issue we're trying
  • 28:04to solve right now because it's
  • 28:05really frustrating when you make
  • 28:07updates and Beatrix and you're not
  • 28:08sure if you did something wrong or
  • 28:10it's just taking a while to update.
  • 28:11So we are aware of those issues.
  • 28:14Unfortunately, it's not a simple fix.
  • 28:16It's lots of smaller issues
  • 28:17that we're having.
  • 28:18Well,
  • 28:18some bigger and some smaller
  • 28:20issues that are all contributing.
  • 28:23We are making progress.
  • 28:23It's going to take a little more time to fix.
  • 28:26I'm really hoping by the 1st week.
  • 28:29Of 2023 we have,
  • 28:30we're in a much better place and
  • 28:32we can actually work to start
  • 28:34shortening that six minute window.
  • 28:36So it's more immediate.
  • 28:38Yeah, but as Aaron said, much faster.
  • 28:40At least today I I just saw
  • 28:43Amanda's question and there was.
  • 28:45I tried posting this news story
  • 28:48last night and it it was Zach
  • 28:51and I were going back and forth.
  • 28:53It was like a conundrum.
  • 28:54All these weird errors and
  • 28:56but but it was fine today.
  • 28:59Amanda is very observant
  • 29:00because she is exactly right.
  • 29:02We had a sync that was happy.
  • 29:04Happening at 4:30 Umm.
  • 29:05There's actually the campus group
  • 29:07sync that was causing issue.
  • 29:09The problem was we were syncing
  • 29:11with them at I think 9:30,
  • 29:13noon and 4:30 and the problem
  • 29:16is that sync created all these.
  • 29:23Necessitated lots of forced updates to
  • 29:25the site and just like totally backed
  • 29:27up the queue of sending out those,
  • 29:29force those updates to
  • 29:32the website from Beatrix.
  • 29:34So we've disabled those syncs.
  • 29:37They're not happening at those times anymore,
  • 29:39so hopefully you don't see that
  • 29:414:30 problem any longer.
  • 29:43Instead, the sink is just happening
  • 29:45once a day in the middle of the night
  • 29:47when hopefully nobody's editing it.
  • 29:49I think it's 2:30 AM,
  • 29:50hopefully nobody's online submitting.
  • 29:53These articles then.
  • 29:55But yeah, so you shouldn't see those really
  • 29:58long delays any longer late afternoon,
  • 30:02around midday and in the morning.
  • 30:05There are still some remaining issues though,
  • 30:07so I can't say it's totally solved,
  • 30:09but that was a big problem that
  • 30:10is now should be solved.
  • 30:15Thanks so much. That's all I had.
  • 30:16Thanks for everyone's, uh,
  • 30:18obliging this one-on-one in a meeting.
  • 30:21No, no, no, no. This is helpful
  • 30:22for everybody. I think so,
  • 30:24but thanks for bringing that up.
  • 30:26And and Zach just, uh,
  • 30:28nicked my last e-mail.
  • 30:29Mark just answered it.
  • 30:31So we're all set.
  • 30:32OK. Thanks. You're welcome, Zach.
  • 30:36Thanks, mark. Any other questions?
  • 30:43I'm happy to. I mean, we have plenty of time,
  • 30:45so I'm happy to talk about questions about
  • 30:48approving news or events. And keywords.
  • 30:50Or about the updates that went out today,
  • 30:52the biggest change was that column flip.
  • 31:00If not, I'm happy to give everybody
  • 31:011/2 hour back with their time.
  • 31:03I'm sure everybody could use it.
  • 31:05Um, so one last call for questions.
  • 31:09I just have a comment to say that
  • 31:11I think it's all coming together.
  • 31:13So I still may have more questions,
  • 31:15but but this has been really helpful.
  • 31:17So I think this one in particular
  • 31:19and kind of bringing all the things
  • 31:22together and I'm sure there'll be
  • 31:23more questions as things go forward.
  • 31:24But just thank you again to all of you
  • 31:26for all of your work on this continually.
  • 31:28I've I've noticed some of the tweaks and
  • 31:30changes and it's and it's really great.
  • 31:32So thank
  • 31:33you and happy holidays.
  • 31:34Thank you for all your feedback.
  • 31:35It really is helpful for what
  • 31:37we're trying to tweak these things
  • 31:38and get things to work right.
  • 31:39So we really appreciate
  • 31:40any feedback you have.
  • 31:42I try not to be a pest, but I'm.
  • 31:44I'm always glad I don't worry about that.
  • 31:46Don't let that be a barrier.
  • 31:49Thank you. Alright.
  • 31:51If there's nothing else,
  • 31:52thank everybody so much.
  • 31:54If you have additional questions later on,
  • 31:56please let us know at wise.
  • 31:57I'm the editor at yale.edu.
  • 31:59And thanks so much for joining.
  • 32:01Thank you.
