Application Process
The Yale Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship currently has three fellows per year. Applications are accepted through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). Please contact Lisa Arnel, Fellowship Coordinator with specific questions as below.
We prioritize equity in the application process. We conduct a holistic review of all applications, including signals in that process, to determine which candidates to interview. All interviews are conducted virtually.
Applicant eligibility depends on the following criteria:
- Have completed ACGME accredited residency training of at least 3 years in surgery, psychiatry, emergency medicine, internal medicine, internal medicine/pediatrics, neurology, radiation oncology, anesthesia, ob/gyn, or physical medicine and rehabilitation, with appropriate board-eligibility or board-certification.
- Provide a personal statement and 3 letters of recommendation, including one from the most recent program director if completing a residency or other fellowship within the last 5 years, and ideally, one from a hospice and palliative care clinician.
- Provide medical school letter and transcript, USMLE or COMLEX scores, current CV, valid ECFMG certificate (for international medical graduates)
- Applicants from residency programs other than internal medicine, family medicine, and internal medicine/pediatrics should have strong prior training in adult medicine.
The Yale program aims to match the strengths of our program to fellow applicants to provide an optimal training program for each Yale fellow. We participate annually in The Match and begin to download and review applications when released by ERAS for each application cycle. Interviews are scheduled on set dates September-November. Our Fellowship Selection Committee guides candidate ranking and selection. Match results are released in in late November or early December each year.
