Biography

Faigy Mandelbaum, PhD is a trauma postdoctoral fellow at the Yale Child Study Center and Research Fulbright Scholar. She graduated with honors from her Clinical Psychology doctoral program at Hofstra University. She received her M.A. in Clinical Psychology with distinction from Hofstra University, her post-bac in Psychology from Brooklyn College, and B.S. in Behavioral Science and Human Services from Bellevue University. She completed her APA-accredited trauma-focused internship at the Yale Child Study Center, where she treated traumatized youth, assisted the New Haven Police Department through Yale's Child Development-Community Policing Program, and completed neuropsychological evaluations. Prior to Yale, she completed practicums at McLean Hospital-Harvard Medical School in the 3 East DBT outpatient and partial hospital programs located in Boston, MA, at the Suicidal and Self-Injurious Behaviors unit and Orthodox Jewish unit in New York Presbyterian-Cornell Hospital, located in Westchester, NY, and in the Phobia and Trauma Clinic and Parent-Child Interaction Therapy Clinic (PCIT) at Hofstra University's Psychological Evaluation Research and Counseling Clinic, located in Long Island, NY. Her dissertation examined the impact of childhood trauma on PTSD and C-PTSD development in active-combat Israeli lone soldiers. She found that lone soldiers (soldiers serving without family support) have significantly more childhood trauma than non-lone soldiers and are 8.54x more likely to develop PTSD when compared to non-lone soldiers. Her research Fulbright to Israel and dissertation studied how childhood trauma, loneliness, and level of social support impact the development of C-PTSD in military populations. She is passionate about working with children, families, and veterans who have experienced trauma. In her free time, she enjoys scuba diving to explore beautiful corals and historical shipwrecks.
