Time Saver: Batch Upload Images and Documents

December 06, 2012

There are a lot of different ways you can display images on your website, including adding photo galleries and creating gallery page toppers. However, these templates generally require having quite a few images on your site. Uploading a single image isn’t difficult, but if you have 10-20 photos or more to add at a time the image upload process can get really old really fast!

You can avoid this issue entirely by batch uploading images instead of creating components one-by-one. A member of the Web Group can batch upload images by placing images directly in into the Tridion database, rather than using the Tridion interface. This can be done for documents as well, so if you have a number of documents to add or update on your site you may find this service useful.

There is some setup involved in order to import files into Tridion properly, so batch uploading is really only helpful if you have 10 or more files that need to be uploaded. To request a batch upload, please email ysm.editor@yale.edu with the name of the site you’d like to add images or documents to, the folder location you’d like the files uploaded to if you have a preference, and the number of files you need to upload (if there are a lot, your best guess is fine). We’ll respond to your email with further instructions on how to get the files to us.

If you think you’ll need to batch upload files often, we can also grant access for you to upload files yourself. If you’re interested in setting yourself up to batch upload files to Tridion, please contact me at mark.albis@yale.edu.
