Dr. Gary Desir Re-elected Chair of YM Board

Gary V. Desir, MD, chair of internal medicine, has been elected to a second two-year term as chair of the Yale Medicine Board.

In addition to re-electing Dr. Desir as chair, the board also approved the appointments of the following committee chairs for the next two years: Peter Schulam, MD, PhD, Operations; Peter Glazer, MD, PhD, Finance; Rob Goodman, MBBCh, Network Development; Steven Choi, MD, and Gary Desir, MD, Quality; Roberta Hines, MD, Nominating and Governance.

Dr. Desir is the Paul B. Beeson Professor of Internal Medicine at the Yale School of Medicine, and he holds a secondary appointment at the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies. An expert in kidney function and disease, Dr. Desir’s major contributions include the discovery of renalase, a kidney protein that plays a role in regulating cardiovascular function. He is co-founder of the Minority Organization for Retention and Expansion, a faculty group at YSM focused on increasing faculty diversity through mentoring programs and developing resilient social networks.
