Kudos to the following members of the Department of Internal Medicine for their recent achievements...


The work of the following department faculty members were recently featured in Smilow Cancer Hospital/Yale Cancer Center’s Centerpoint magazine.

Mahalia S. Desruisseaux, MD, was named president of American Committee of Molecular, Cellular, and Immunoparasitology (ACMCIP). She presented, “This is your brain on parasites: Neuropathology of parasitic infections,” at the 17th Annual American Committee of Molecular, Cellular, and Immunoparasitology (ACMCIP) Symposium.

Samy Galvez recently received a Linda Lorimar Award, along with Wyatt Israel, Mark McKnight, Petergaye Murray, Rennie Negron, and Liza Nicoll. The team conducted a large-scale randomized control trial in Honduras to deliver health education aimed at reducing infant and maternal mortality. Their efforts established a model trial that now serves as a best-practice template for researchers around the world.

Yimen Gao won the ASH Abstract Achievement Award from the American Society of Hematology (ASH). This honor is given to trainees with high-scoring ASH annual meeting abstracts.

Roy S. Herbst, MD, PhD, presented the Waun Ki Hong Memorial Lecture at the AACR-Korean Cancer Association Joint Workshop on Precision Medicine last week on Personalized Therapy for Advanced Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer: From BATTLE to Immunotherapy.

Leo Lopez III, MD, presented, “Story-telling for Social Justice in Medicine” at the Alpert Medical School Immigrant Rights Coalition at Brown University in November.

Richard Martinello, MD, recently participated on The ICHE Podcast discussing his article, “Nursing preference for alcohol-based hand rub volume.”

Jane McDaniel, MS, MLS, SC, presented, “Innovative Strategies for Clinical Microscopy Instruction: Virtual versus Light Microscopy,” at the Association of Medical Educators in Europe in August.
