  • 00:26parts of the program that we love most,
  • 00:30including the people that
  • 00:32education the clinical space.
  • 00:34And I might deviate a little bit and
  • 00:36show you some of my personal favourites.
  • 00:39Access to soda,
  • 00:40access to caffeine lounge chairs, couches,
  • 00:42and where the ping pong table is.
  • 00:46Come take a walk with us.
  • 00:47We'll have some fun.
  • 00:49As you come
  • 00:50out of the Fellows Room,
  • 00:52you actually immediately enter what I like
  • 00:54to refer to as the hallway of legends,
  • 00:57which really remarkable about Yale
  • 00:58universities have unbelievable
  • 00:59unprecedented access to faculty,
  • 01:01and I think the proximity to their
  • 01:03offices really highlights this.
  • 01:04So as we walked down the
  • 01:06hallway were going to pass.
  • 01:08First, doctor berenice is office whose
  • 01:09kind of incharge of RENT division to
  • 01:12our leftist Pamela Kuhn's office and
  • 01:14she's in charge of Right GI Division.
  • 01:16The next door on your right
  • 01:18is actually Roy Herbs,
  • 01:19who's the chair of oncology.
  • 01:21And then to our left we're going
  • 01:23to pass Mario Shoals Office.
  • 01:24Who is the president of the
  • 01:26immunotherapy for Cancer Society?
  • 01:27And then as we continue to go down,
  • 01:30we're going to pass the phase
  • 01:32one group doctor Lou Russo,
  • 01:33Doctor Ader on our left.
  • 01:35His doctor Lacey are our former program
  • 01:37director who's a medical education phenom,
  • 01:39phenom.
  • 01:39And then last but not least,
  • 01:41we passed Harriet Cougars Office who
  • 01:42is also part of the Melanoma division.
  • 01:45Next,
  • 01:45we're going to
  • 01:46go from the Fellows room over to the main
  • 01:48hospital and the cancer hospital. Kind of a
  • 01:51lot. Yeah.
  • 02:21Now that we've shown you the Fellows
  • 02:24room passed through the hallway
  • 02:26of legends across the bridge,
  • 02:28we first actually answered the main hospital,
  • 02:31and you'll notice this beautiful atrium,
  • 02:33plenty of natural sunlight
  • 02:35and a beautiful fountain.
  • 02:36And oh, hello Doreen. Nice to see you.
  • 02:39What a coincidence.
  • 02:42Excellent spot for eating lunch for
  • 02:44taking a 15 minute break for catching
  • 02:46your breath and in the middle of
  • 02:49winter catching up on your vitamin
  • 02:51D at Austin special fruit partali.
  • 02:53I get really excited about
  • 02:54this part of the virtual tour.
  • 02:56If you look down the sidewalk,
  • 02:58you're going to see probably
  • 03:0010 to 15 different food carts.
  • 03:02We have Mexican with Japanese.
  • 03:04We have Chinese, we have Thai.
  • 03:06We have group.
  • 03:07The list really goes on Anon.
  • 03:09Phenomenal spot.
  • 03:09Not overly priced.
  • 03:10Great quantity,
  • 03:11break quality over my shoulder.
  • 03:13You see doctor poodles,
  • 03:14his favorite building, the Sterling
  • 03:16Hall of Medicine Medical Library.
  • 03:18Great spot to go and get work done.
  • 03:21Quiet space, really good when
  • 03:22you're on your research blocks.
  • 03:24Seems a little quiet here today.
  • 03:26It's actually 2:00 o'clock in the pandemics,
  • 03:29hurt the hype around food carts,
  • 03:31a little bit.
  • 03:32Highly recommended.
  • 03:33Great spot.
  • 03:33Gotta check it
  • 03:34out. We're standing
  • 03:36outside of Milo Cancer Hospital.
  • 03:38We wanted to show you what the
  • 03:41hospital looks like in here.
  • 03:43We have our clinic spaces for both
  • 03:46medical oncology and Hematology.
  • 03:48We also have our inpatient
  • 03:50words for oncology hematology
  • 03:52within the same building.
  • 03:54We have radiation oncology.
  • 03:56Surgical oncology.
  • 03:57Basically, anything that you
  • 03:58might need in the hospital.
  • 04:02So.
  • 04:14Now we're inside smilow cancer hospital.
  • 04:18Look at this beautiful clinic space.
  • 04:26Hi Matt. Oh friends. Hello welcome. This
  • 04:30is our standard clinical space.
  • 04:33Pretty standard room.
  • 04:34You have your otoscope,
  • 04:35your ophthalmoscope patient share
  • 04:37and then your obligatory computer.
  • 04:38If you want to access the medical
  • 04:41record while you talk with patients.
  • 04:43What I think is unique is if
  • 04:45we go through this door will
  • 04:47get a little bit better flavor.
  • 04:49How the clinic is set up for practitioners?
  • 04:52Let's take a walk together.
  • 04:55Doctor Goldberg. Hello,
  • 04:57what a coincidence. Doctor
  • 04:59Goldberg, one of our social program directors
  • 05:04and thoracic oncology extraordinary.
  • 05:07And this is a little flavor
  • 05:09of how this is situated.
  • 05:11Often in this space there's an attending a
  • 05:13fellow nurse practitioner, pizan, nurses,
  • 05:15and if you look all these closed doors
  • 05:18are actually where the patients around.
  • 05:21So the patients come in the door you
  • 05:23walk through and then the providers
  • 05:25coming through the other door and
  • 05:27it's kind of like a self autonomous
  • 05:29unit and it works really well and
  • 05:31everybody gets along the right.
  • 05:33So it's really markable
  • 05:34about these clinic space.
  • 05:35It actually allows for really well
  • 05:38coordinated multidisciplinary care.
  • 05:39So often this is the lung cancer
  • 05:41clinic and you would have a Nurse
  • 05:43Practitioner Apiai the nurses.
  • 05:44The Fellow in detecting and what's
  • 05:46really cool is if you walk 10 feet
  • 05:49that way you might have G you.
  • 05:51You might have palliative care.
  • 05:53And it fosters this great multi discipline
  • 05:55of environments and collegiality
  • 05:56among subspecialties that, I think,
  • 05:58is really unique to Yale University,
  • 06:00that you don't get it on the
  • 06:03programs. This is the healing garden which
  • 06:05is on the 7th floor of the cancer hospital,
  • 06:08is a nice quiet space that we often see
  • 06:11patients come up to or quiet moment.
  • 06:13But I also like to spend lunch here.
  • 06:17Pick a bench. Get some vitamin D.
  • 06:19Do some thinking. Let's take a walk.
  • 06:49Going to the world now inside voice.
  • 07:02So we're on the words of
  • 07:04Smilow Cancer Hospital.
  • 07:05This is the 12th floor where the
  • 07:08medical oncology wards are one.
  • 07:09Floor down will be the hematology words.
  • 07:12It's nice, bright light.
  • 07:13Every room is a single patient room.
  • 07:15We have the best nurses around an
  • 07:17it's a great environment to work
  • 07:20it. It's really you need to fellowship
  • 07:22program and it's actually really invaluable
  • 07:24resource for both us is Fellows and patience
  • 07:27is what we call the extended care clinic.
  • 07:30It's actually an urgent care solely
  • 07:32dedicated to either hematology
  • 07:33or oncology dedicated patients.
  • 07:35And when you're on call and it's 8:00
  • 07:37o'clock at night to really great option,
  • 07:39instead of sending potentially immuno
  • 07:41suppressed patients to the emergency room.
  • 07:42And I think it's something very special,
  • 07:44very unique and very very very
  • 07:46much appreciated by patients.
  • 07:47So this is the extended care clinic.
  • 07:49We can't show it all to you
  • 07:51because of HIPAA npi.
  • 07:53Hi, but know that it's here.
  • 07:54It's A wonderful resource.
  • 07:55And as a fellow
  • 07:57it's your saving Grace.
  • 07:58Some of us have children.
  • 07:59I had a kid coming into Fellowship.
  • 08:01My second daughter was
  • 08:02born first year fellow.
  • 08:04My wife's expecting 1/3.
  • 08:05Child care can be huge and I just
  • 08:07wanted to show you that this is
  • 08:09actually a dedicated childcare
  • 08:10facility day care facility for Fellows
  • 08:12and hospital staff and we're about
  • 08:14200 yards from the Fellows room and
  • 08:16about 200 yards from the hospital.
  • 08:18There's actually multiple of these
  • 08:19scattered throughout the campus
  • 08:21and a couple of my Co fails.
  • 08:22Kids actually go here, and it's
  • 08:24pretty remarkable 'cause you
  • 08:25can walk by and see all the
  • 08:27kids running outside in plain.
  • 08:29So for those that do have families
  • 08:31for those that do have kids in a word
  • 08:33about daycare, we have you covered.
  • 08:35Yale University. Sunshine.
  • 08:37Oh, hello friends.
  • 08:43As we wind down our time together we
  • 08:53just wanted to share with you some
  • 08:55closing words about Yale University.
  • 08:57Thanks for joining us on this Tour.

  • 09:02little look into what a life and a
  • 09:05fellow's life might be like. At Yale.
  • 09:07We wish we could have taken you on
  • 09:09person and I say with almost sincerity.
