Created in December 2020 and inaugurated in June 2021, the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in Internal Medicine (ODEIM) support the department’s DEI plan.

The ODEIM is led by Inginia Genao, MD, FACP, and vice chief representation from each section, along with departmental staff.

The Diversity Committee is the at-large group of interested individuals throughout the department.

Some members of the Diversity Committee have also volunteered for individual Working Groups (netID login required) which are focused on Innovation, Early Pipeline, Recruitment, Retention, Funding & Resources, Data/Metrics, and PR/Marketing.

In 2016, the Yale department of Internal Medicine Diversity Committee was formed by Dr. Inginia Genao to improve the retention and recruitment of underrepresented minority faculty and trainees by expanding outreach efforts both within and outside of Yale. The committee members include medical students, residents, faculty, business professionals from different medicine sub-specialties. The work of the committee has focused on diverse faculty pipeline programs through recruitment efforts on trainees. As a result, committee members are visiting HBCU across the U.S. to share all that Yale has to offer and encourage medical students to learn more about Yale by speaking to our faculty and trainees, and completing away electives at Yale School of Medicine.
