    Biography

Dr. Melnick is a national leader in emergency medicine and clinical informatics research, with expertise in designing, implementing, and evaluating digital tools that improve care delivery. His work focuses on leveraging electronic health records (EHRs) and clinical decision support systems to enhance clinical workflows and patient outcomes. He is Principal Investigator of the ADAPT project, a five-year R33 award from the National Institute on Drug Abuse, now in its third year, evaluating a multicomponent clinical decision support intervention to improve treatment for opioid use disorder in emergency settings. He also leads a multi-year collaboration with the American Medical Association to develop and implement national EHR use measures that better capture the clinical experience and support system-level transformation.

Dr. Melnick serves as Research Section Chief in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Yale School of Medicine. He is Program Director for the Yale/VA Clinical Informatics Fellowship and is double board-certified in Emergency Medicine and Clinical Informatics. He practices clinically at Yale New Haven Hospital’s York Street and Shoreline campuses and is deeply engaged in mentoring faculty, fellows, residents, and students in high-impact health services and informatics research.
