Peter J. Na, MD, MPH, assistant professor of psychiatry, and Robert H. Pietrzak, PhD, MPH, professor of psychiatry and public health, are first and senior authors of a new Viewpoint in JAMA Psychiatry which describes social disconnection as a global behavioral epidemic.
This Viewpoint, which was inspired by the late Steven M. Southwick, MD, Greenberg Professor Emeritus of Psychiatry, is a call to action for educational, health policy, research and clinical practice communities to consider the importance of social disconnection as a major risk factor for a broad range of health problems and premature mortality.
Na and Pietrzak dedicate this Viewpoint to the memory of Southwick.
