Why did you decide to pursue a career in medicine?
I chose a career in medicine out of my passion for helping others. From a young age, growing up in Grenada, I was asked numerous times what I wanted to be when I grew up, and my answer would be “a doctor,” with no true understanding of what that meant. However, through various life experiences in my teenage years and twenties, I understood that my purpose was to serve others using my compassion and my strengths in the sciences.
Why did you choose Yale Department of Internal Medicine for your fellowship?
Yale nephrology was my first choice for pursuing subspecialty training because my goal was to become a well-rounded nephrologist skilled in handling the demands and complexities of this field.
I wanted to be surrounded by like-minded individuals, professors, physician-scientists, and researchers to gain as much knowledge and experience as possible and feel supported throughout my fellowship. The Section of Nephrology is filled with amazing mentors who have made my journey worth it.
What was your path to Yale?
I was born and raised in Grenada and attended medical school at St. George’s University on a scholarship. Subsequently, I completed my internal medicine residency at WellSpan York Hospital, in York, Pennsylvania, where I gained experience and had mentors who influenced my career path in nephrology.
