Academic and Career Advising in Advisory Houses
Yale School of Medicine (YSM) has six advisory houses that function as a homebase for academic advising and career advising, where students can connect with classmates, faculty, alumni and others at YSM, and they facilitate greater access to mentorship, research opportunities, and career exploration. Social activities, community service opportunities, and special events support community building, teamwork, and inclusion, as well as collegial discussion, sharing of ideas, and reflection.
YSM Advisory Houses
Each house has a head of advisory house, elected student representative, longitudinal coaches, and affiliates, who all contribute to the mentoring and social ecosystem of the houses.
Academic Advising
Yale School of Medicine recognizes the special importance of academic advising and career counseling for medical students. The Academic Advising Program provides academic and career guidance to medical students while contributing to their professional development
Career Advising
Deciding on a career path in medicine is a process that can span the entire time you are in medical school and is all about self-discovery, connecting with good mentors, exploring your options, and making a decision.
Community Building
The advisory houses sponsor community-building events in collaboration with student representatives to foster social, networking, mentorship, and educational opportunities.
