About Professor Lumley: Professor Thomas Lumley attended Monash University (B.Sc.(Hons) in Pure Mathematics), the University of Oxford (M.Sc. in Applied Statistics) and the University of Washington, Seattle (PhD in Biostatistics). Dr. Lumley spent twelve years on the faculty of the Department of Biostatistics at the University of Washington, and then moved to University of Auckland in 2010. He is still an Affiliate Professor at the University of Washington. Dr. Lumley is a professor of statistics at the University of Auckland and the Chair in Biostatistics. His research interests lie in regression modelling, clinical trials, semi parametric inference, statistical computing, foundations, and genomics. He makes contributions to Ras a member of the R Core Team and contributes to the StatsChat blog. He is a fellow of the American Statistical Association and a fellow of the Royal Society of New Zealand. He has developed many influential R packages including the highly cited survey package in R for analyzing complex survey samples.
