Biography
Dr. Kai (Jack) Zhang obtained his Ph.D at the Institute of Biophysics (IBP), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) in 2013 and did his postdoctoral research at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology from 2014 to 2018. He started his appointment as an assistant professor at the MB&B department in January 2019. Dr. Zhang’s research at Yale University focuses on the mechanisms of the dynamic movement of cellular materials and cell motility using various approaches, with an emphasis on the methodology development of advanced cryo-electron microscopy and tomography (cryo-EM/ET) technologies. Our goal is to reveal very high-resolution 3D landscapes of the many fascinating cytoskeletal motors as highly dynamic, elaborate, and interconnected (DEI) molecular machines in their native states. In addition to all our efforts toward a crystal-clear solution to addressing the long-standing DEI issue at the molecular level in the whole research community, what is more important is that our team is fully committed to promoting diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) of the whole society whenever possible.
