Social and Emotional Learning in Times of Uncertainty and Stress: Research-Based Strategies
As the adults in schools, how do we care for our own well-being so that we can show up as our best selves for our students in these times of change and uncertainty? All preK-12 and afterschool program staff in Rhode Island have the opportunity to take "Social and Emotional Learning in Times of Uncertainty and Stress: Research-Based Strategies." This course is delivered by leading experts in the fields of psychology, education, and research at the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence and available on a rolling basis. There is no course fee.

Start the Course!

To start the course, you will need to set up a Coursera account with your school email address. If you already have a Coursera account set up with your school email address, please follow the instructions for Option #1 below. If you do not, please follow the instructions for Option #2.

Option #1: I Already Have a Coursera Account with My RI School Email Address

If you already have a Coursera account with your RI school email address:

  • Please access Coursera
  • Click “Log in” on the top right and enter your RI school credentials.
  • You will see a pop-up inviting you to “Join Program.” Click this button.
  • Under “Browse Catalog,” click on the course and “Enroll for Free.” You may need to refresh your internet browser for the course to appear.
  • Click “Go to Course” and start learning! You can get started by clicking “Week 1” in the left-side menu.

Option #2: I Do Not Have a Coursera Account with My RI School Email Address

If you do not have a Coursera account with your RI school email address:

  1. Please access Coursera
  2. Click “Join for Free,” then click “Sign up.” Set up your account with your RI school email address. Then click “Join for Free.” (Note: Sometimes, the "Join for Free" button at the bottom of the "Sign Up" box will not work the first time you click it. If this occurs, try refreshing the page and re-inputting your information, then click "Join for Free" again.)
  3. You may be asked to confirm your RI school email address. You will receive an email from Coursera. Please click the link in this email, then return to the course link and refresh the page.
  4. Once logged in and confirmed, click “Join the Program,” and refresh your internet browser for the course to appear.
  5. Under “Browse Catalog,” click on the course and “Enroll for Free.”
  6. Click “Go to Course” and start learning! You can get started by clicking “Week 1” in the left-side menu.
Click “Join for Free,” then click “Sign up.” Set up your account with your RI school email address. Then click “Join for Free.”
