Samantha Smith, MD, associate professor (orthopaedics & rehabilitation) has been named associate program director of the Internal Medicine Combined Medicine-Pediatrics (Med-Peds) Residency Program.

Smith replaces Jaideep Talwalkar, MD, who served in the role for 15 years. Talwalkar was recently named assistant dean for education at Yale School of Medicine (YSM).

Smith attended Williams College, where she studied chemistry, graduated magna cum laude in 2009. She earned her medical degree from the University of Chicago, graduating AOA with the Gold Humanism Award in 2013.

She completed a residency in Med-Peds at Yale, including a year as a chief resident. She went onto the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City for a fellowship in sports medicine.

“Beyond her stellar resume virtues, Dr. Smith models our very highest ideals of wisdom and kindness. We are grateful to have her in our midst,” said Benjamin R. Doolittle MD, MDiv, professor of medicine (general medicine), pediatrics and divinity; and director, Internal Medicine-Pediatrics Residency Program.

Smith starts in her new role on July 1.
