The Yale Pelvic Floor Group (YPFG) has been collaborating over the last year to discuss patients with complex pelvic floor disorders. This collaborative effort has resulted in a greater appreciation of evaluation techniques and different treatment approaches across specialties. Additionally, a review of the literature shows that many primary care practitioners feel their knowledge about pelvic floor disorders is insufficient to manage these problems, with pessimism about treatment success and time limitation emerging as common reasons.
Drs. Hulda Einarsdottir, Marsha K. Guess, Leslie M. Rickey, and Mayra Sanchez designed this program which offers a unique opportunity, providing evidence-based information on the signs and symptoms of common pelvic floor disorders, presenting various surgical and nonsurgical treatments that can significantly improve function and quality of life, and highlighting advances in the field.
Knowledge gained from attending this conference will be relevant for all levels of primary care providers as well as specialists skilled in the routine management of these patients.
