Behavioral Health and Chronic Illness
Emergency medicine includes caring for patients with an intersection of mental illness and chronic illnesses that are exacerbated by structural barriers to care and socioeconomic disadvantages. Our faculty are funded nationally to address these challenges using novel technologies and therapeutics to target these traditionally marginalized individuals as they interface with emergency care.
Biomarker and Device Research
Digital Health
Our team is focused on improving patient outcomes utilizing innovative digital health technologies. We seek to empower those of marginalized and vulnerable communities through advanced and scalable digital health interventions to address health disparities. Our research has been funded by multiple grants from NIA/NIH, AHRQ, RWJF, CMS, MSU, and VA.

Geriatrics
Our faculty are committed to optimizing health care for older adults through translational research focused on healthy aging; the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of age-related health concerns; and the cost-effectiveness of various approaches to care.
Global Health
Our faculty engage in cutting edge research on diverse and emerging topics of importance in Global Health, primarily in Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs).
Healthcare Simulation
Our faculty apply cutting-edge simulation technologies to investigate safety and quality issues facing the healthcare sector as well as best practices for training and educating future generations of physicians and clinicians. We have been funded by the Department of Defense, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), as well as multiple national foundations to improve patient care using simulation.
Health Policy and Health Services
We have a multi-disciplinary team of investigators and implementation experts with a mission to improve the quality and value of emergency and acute care through rigorous research and training the next generation of healthcare leaders. Our work seeks to measure and expand access, effectiveness, affordability and equity in acute and emergency care.
Imaging
Our faculty have been funded by ACEP, SAEM, AIUM, AHRQ, and the AHA, resulting in over 100 peer-reviewed publications. Our focus is to highlight the utility of point of care ultrasound (POCUS) in the early diagnosis of aortic dissection, push the envelope on using POCUS for early diagnosis and prognosis of pulmonary embolism, and sought to reduce unnecessary CT imaging in renal colic.

Funded nationally to address substance use disorders, our faculty focuses on advancing innovative treatments and improving the quality and efficacy of care for patients.
