    Biography

Dr. Marcus Hughes is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Yale School of Medicine and an Attending Psychiatrist on the Interventional Psychiatry Service (IPS) at Yale-New Haven Psychiatric Hospital. He is a former chief resident of IPS and a 2024 graduate of the Yale Psychiatry Residency Program. Additionally, he is the faculty advisor for the Solomon Carter Fuller Association, involved in resident-level didactics, and an interviewer for the Yale Psychiatry Residency Program.

He is predominantly interested in equitable investigation and implementation of novel pharmacological interventions, particularly psychedelic and psychedelic-like molecules, and their application in the treatment of mood and substance use disorders. He is currently the Study MD on a novel clinical trial, The Efficacy of Psilocybin Therapy for Depression in Parkinson's Disease, led by PI Sophie Holmes. With clinical expertise in treatment-resistant depression, he sees patients through the busy ketamine/esketamine, electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) services at Yale-New Haven Psychiatric Hospital. Dr. Hughes promotes social justice and equity in practice with a focus on cultural and structural competencies.

Dr. Hughes is a member of Alpha Omega Alpha and was a Diversity Leadership Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association Foundation from 2022 to 2024. His favorite pastimes include thinking, reading, making photographs, making paintings, listening to funk and jazz, and fixed gear cycling.
