Karen Ann Hammond, DNP, APRN, ACNP (BC)

Karen A. Hammond, DNP, APRN, ACNP-BC, AOCNP is an acute care/oncology/hematology nurse practitioner at the Smilow Cancer Hospital in Waterbury within the Yale New Haven Health System, a Doctor of Nursing Practice in Leadership, and clinical faculty in the Adult Advanced Practice Nursing specialty within the Yale School of Nursing in New Haven, Connecticut. Ms. Hammond is licensed as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) and certified as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP-BC) and an Advanced Oncology Certified Nurse Practitioner (AOCNP). She is sub-investigator for many clinical trials in medical oncology and hematology. She has been the recipient of awards from the American Cancer Society including the Excellence in Oncology Nursing Award, the Community Connection Award, and the State of Connecticut Sunrise Award. She is the recipient of the Robert B. Norris Memorial Award. She has received scholarships from the University of Connecticut, Connecticut Nurses Foundation, The Yale School of Nursing, the American Cancer Society, and Oncology Nursing Society. She is an inductee of the Golden Key National Honor Society, the Alpha Sigma Lambda Honor Society, the Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society-Delta Mu Chapter, and most recently into the Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society-Tau Rho Chapter. Ms. Hammond is a member of the Oncology Nursing Society, the Advanced Practitioner Society for Hematology and Oncology, the American Organization of Nursing Leadership, and the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. She has been a presenter at local and national meetings for the Oncology Nursing Society and invited to numerous advisory boards. She earned an Associate degree in Nursing Science from Mattatuck Community College in Waterbury, CT; a bachelor’s degree in general studies from the University of Connecticut at Storrs, CT; a master’s degree in nursing from the Yale School of Nursing in New Haven, CT, and a Doctor of Nursing Practice in Leadership from Quinnipiac University School of Nursing in Hamden, CT.
