Isabella Backman

Isabella "Izzy" Backman graduated from Saint Michael's College with a B.S. in biology and minor in creative writing. She would go on to join the UC Santa Cruz Science Communication Program, one of the country's most competitive journalism programs, which allowed her to combine her interests. She brought her love for telling stories about science to Yale School of Medicine in 2021 as a summer science writing intern, and in the fall, she joined the Office of Communications full-time as associate writer and editor. She has held previous positions at NASA Ames Research Center and Stanford University News. Her work can also be found in outlets including Science, Mongabay, Eos and the San Jose Mercury News.
