    Clinical Care

    Overview

Cameron Gettel, MD, is an emergency medicine physician who cares for people with urgent or life-threatening conditions. He focuses on improving care transitions for older adults, including developing ways to gather input from patients and caregivers to enhance recovery and support after leaving the emergency department.

“I was drawn to emergency medicine because of the dynamic variety in clinical care, where every shift presents new challenges and the unexpected,” Dr. Gettel says. "I find it incredibly rewarding to be present during a critical time in people's lives, providing immediate care when it matters most.”

As an assistant professor at Yale School of Medicine, Dr. Gettel studies strategies that streamline the transition from hospital to home, with the goal of preventing complications and helping patients maintain independence. He has been recognized by the National Institute on Aging and the Alzheimer’s Association for his work on improving outcomes for older adults.

Dr. Gettel received his medical training from the Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine, pursued a residency in emergency medicine at Brown University, and completed a research fellowship at Yale School of Medicine.
