Biography

Anne Marie Boustani, MD, is a nuclear radiologist. She grew up in Toledo, Ohio where she completed medical school in 2009 at The University of Toledo College of Medicine. She studiedphilosophy at Ohio State University and Art at The University of Toledo before completing a master’s degree in Medical and Biological Illustration at Johns Hopkins University. Since then, she has worked as an illustrator and designer at the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health, translating traditional educational content into an online format, as well as taking on freelance illustration and design projects. Currently, she is a nuclear radiologist in the Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging. She joined the department after completing a nuclear radiology fellowship at Yale following radiology residency at Norwalk Hospital. As a nuclear radiologist, Boustani interprets nuclear medicine images and treats patients with neuroendocrine tumors, thyroid and prostate cancers, as well hyperthyroidism. She lives in Woodbridge with her husband, Marcus (also a radiologist) and their two children.

Overview

Anne Marie Boustani, MD, is a nuclear radiologist. She interprets general nuclear medicine and oncologic imaging studies, and treats cancer patients. She is trained to help treat thyroid malignancies and conditions, neuroendocrine tumors, and metastatic prostate cancer.

“I love my job because I diagnose patients using specific oncologic imaging techniques that then can lead to targeted treatments,” Dr. Boustani says. As a radiologist, she interprets imaging studies in order to provide clinicians with the best information to help treat patients successfully. As a nuclear radiologist, she has the ability to combine diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. By using targets to image a particular cancer, nuclear medicine physicians can treat cancer selectively by using those same targets, thereby minimizing side effects, she says.

“I like having patient contact,” Dr. Boustani says. “I listen to their concerns and let them know that they are being heard. Sometimes taking the time to listen provides more support and generates more goodwill than giving advice.” Dr. Boustani’s research interests include determining how to best use nuclear medicine techniques to diagnose and treat neuroendocrine tumors, and using novel diagnostic imaging agents to improve cancer diagnosis and ultimately improve treatment.
