Implementation of Intensive, Real-Tim Biobehavioral Data Collection fro Self-Management Intervention and Healthcare System Workflows

Dr. Ash is an exercise physiologist who leverages big data analytics and behavioral frameworks to develop and implement personalized self-management interventions for people with chronic illnesses, including type 1 and 2 diabetes, sleep apnea, and Gulf War illness. His work is closely tied to scalable implementation channels; he uses consumer-grade wearable devices and self-monitoring apps, a diabetes-specific digital exercise platform with 20,000 commercial subscribers, and quality improvement programs at several Veterans Affairs Medical Centers nationwide. His work is considered a critical use case for the Veterans Affairs patient-generated health data (PGHD) initiatives because he utilizes continuous glucose monitoring, which lies in what is currently a critical grey area of the PGHD spectrum. It does not require the intensive monitoring of vital sign monitors like Holter monitors, but it is still critical medical information unlike lifestyle tools like fitness smartwatches. He is interested in applying analytics to our datasets, such as predicting optimal moments for digital interventions.
