Group Well Child Care
Offered as an option to PGY2 and PGY3 residents, our Group Well Child care model allows a resident to recruit a cohort of 4-8 newborns born at about the same time and to follow this cohort for well child visits for the first year of life. Residents are paired one-on-one with an attending, a nurse and a child life specialist for the visits. Weights, measurements, physical exams, anticipatory guidance are provided all together in ONE room allowing parents to receive simultaneous peer education/support and expert advice. Our residents have the opportunity to learn about social determinants of health and community members, see a side-by-side developmental comparison, and work closely with one faculty mentor for the year. More than half of our senior residents opt to lead a group each year. For residents proficient in Spanish, Group Well Child Care can be offered in Spanish through the Yale Children's Hispanic Clinic (Y-CHiC).
