May 19, 2014

Peter Jokl, M.D. ’68, HS ’73, FW ’74, received the Connecticut Orthopaedic Society’s Orthopaedist of the Year award for 2014. Jokl was selected by his peers for his work and commitment over the past 40 years—his dedication to the integrity of the practice of orthopaedics and teaching hundreds of students, residents, and fellows. He was nominated by Gary Friedlaender, M.D., who also presented the award during the Society’s Annual Meeting on May 9 at the Farmington Marriott in Farmington, Conn.

Jokl is the vice chair of the Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation at Yale, and was program director of its resident training program and of its sports medicine fellowship. He has been the medical director of the Yale New Haven Hospital Rehabilitation Committee for decades. Jokl is actively involved in regional and international athletic events, including serving as medical commissioner for the 1995 World Special Olympics, and past medical director of the Pilot Pen Tennis Tournament and the annual New Haven TAC national 20 K road race championships.

Jokl received his medical degree from Yale University, completing a surgical internship at Vanderbilt University Hospital in Tennessee and his residency in orthopaedics at Yale, where he did a fellowship in rheumatology and infectious disease.
