Yale Radiology & Biomedical Imaging Global Outreach Program
Yale Radiology & Biomedical Imaging is pleased to offer our residents a 4-week away-elective in the beautiful country of Tanzania during one of their fourth year mini-fellowship rotations. Yale Radiology & Biomedical Imaging will cover the cost of round-trip airfare and housing in Tanzania for the duration of the rotation. This is a unique opportunity for our residents to experience the practice of radiology in a resource-limited setting, while boosting the radiology workforce of Tanzania through teaching sessions with the radiology residents at the Muhimbili National Hospital. Tanzania currently has 50 radiologists for a population of 55 million people, Yale Radiology & Biomedical Imaging residents can help increase both the number and quality of radiologists in Tanzania through teaching and collaboration.
The Yale Radiology & Biomedical Imaging Global Outreach Program is exploring additional opportunities for resident participation in global radiology initiatives. Some of those additional opportunities include additional away-elective sites, residency exchange programs, establishing a RAD-AID chapter at Yale Radiology & Biomedical Imaging, broadcasting our didactic lectures with partner residency programs and providing an ongoing forum for residents and faculty interested in global radiology and global health at large.
We are fortunate to be part of the Yale Medical community, where global health initiatives are already mature and well-entrenched in other departments and at the Yale School of Medicine and Yale School of Public Health.
Yale Radiology & Biomedical Imaging is excited to join this rich tradition at Yale, while nurturing the participation of radiologists in addressing the acute global shortage of well-trained radiologists.
