Physics Course: Technology, Quality, & Safety

A course in physics is offered annually and reviews the basic concepts of external beam radiotherapy, and other details relevant to the field of radiotherapy including production of x-rays, dosimetry, brachytherapy, IMRT (intensity modulated radiotherapy), depth dose concepts, photons, electrons, orthovoltage, stereotactic radiotherapy and particle decay. All details regarding radiation safety and the safe application and use of radiotherapy according to specialty standards and the NRC are reviewed. The course is taught by a variety of full time faculty members. The course is designed to have appropriate content with regard to preparation for the American Board of Radiology examination.
