The Section of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology seeks to provide the finest care currently available to children and young adults with malignant diseases and hematologic disorders, while participating in clinical research to develop improved therapies for the future. Our daily clinics provide care for children with a broad range of illnesses. Disease-specific clinics are also organized for hemophilia and coagulation disorders, sickle cell disease, brain tumors, adolescent and young adult oncology, bone marrow failure and cancer predisposition, and stem cell transplantation. An additional clinic, the Health Education Research Outcomes for Survivors of Childhood Cancer (HEROS Clinic), addresses the delayed and often long-lasting side effects of cancer treatments.

Solid tumors, including:

  • Brain tumors
  • Osteosarcoma
  • Ewing sarcoma
  • Germ cell tumors
  • Neuroblastoma
  • Rhabdomyosarcoma
  • Retinoblastoma
  • Hepatoblastoma and other liver tumors
  • Wilms tumor and other renal tumors
  • Sarcomas and other rare tumors


Blood and Lymphatic cancers:

  • Leukemia including acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), acute myeloid leukemia (AML), and chronic myeloid leukemia (CML)
  • Hodgkin lymphoma
  • Non-Hodgkin lymphomas including Burkitt lymphoma and others


Disorders of blood coagulation:

  • Hemophilia
  • Von Willebrand disease
  • Platelet disorders
  • Thrombosis (including deep vein thrombosis[DVT] or pulmonary embolism [PE]) and thrombophilia (tendency to develop blood clots)
  • Other rare bleeding disorders


Disorders of red blood cells:

  • Sickle cell disease
  • Thalassemias
  • Hereditary spherocytosis
  • G6PD deficiency


Immune hematologic disorders:

  • Immune thrombocytopenia (ITP)
  • Autoimmune hemolytic anemia
  • Autoimmune neutropenia
