MD-PhD 50th Anniversary Celebration
We invite all MD-PhD alumni and guests to celebrate the 50th anniversary of our program. We will kick off the festivities with an evening Cocktail Reception on Friday, October 9th in the Yale University Sterling Memorial Library Knave, followed by scientific and social programming with old friends and new over the weekend.
WELCOME to the 2019 first-year MD-PhD students!
It's hard to believe that the 2019 White Coat Ceremony inducting 19 new students to our program was 4 months ago!! They hail from the four corners of the US (including Hawaii and the US Virgin Islands!), representing 5 different non-USA countries of birth, 19 different undergraduate institutions, and 11 different proposed departments of study ranging from Biomedical Engineering to Epidemiology and Public Health to Physiology and Computational Biology.
Is MD-PhD right for me?
Every year, MD-PhD students and program staff travel to graduate fairs, conferences and university campuses as part of our commitment to recruiting and advancing outstanding students from historically underrepresented groups in medicine (URiM) and disadvantaged backgrounds. This year Danielle Miyagishima, Reiko Fitzsimonds and Woong Hwang (pictured left to right) travelled to Honolulu, HI for the SACNAS meeting.
What's Cooking in the MD-PhD Program
"To cook for someone can be one of life’s great expressions of care and affection. To cook with someone can be a powerful and gratifying bonding experience. To cook with many people – say, 50 or so on an MD-PhD Student Council budget - can be a test of all 50+ relationships involved. It takes a unique kind of community to pull this off." Chef Drew Daniels (4th year MD-PhD student in Immunobiology) wrote about the students' paella cookout and shares his recipe for Seafood Paella here!
Musings on Mentorship
Three current MD-PhD students--Ryan Chow, Jonathan Park and Matt Dong--are in the laboratory of Assistant Professor Sidi Chen. They are part of the team of authors on a ground-breaking paper published in the journal Nature Immunology in October. Here they give some thoughts on why they enjoy being in the Chen Lab.
