Overview
Dr. Barr is a medical education and health services researcher whose work centers on how family medicine residency training shapes the physician workforce. Her research examines how residency program characteristics relate to graduates' scope of practice, including maternity care, care of children, inpatient and critical care, and gender-affirming care. She also studies resident experience, including burnout, career intentions, and the use of AI and electronic health records. Her interests extend to evidence for residency redesign, competency-based medical education, and community-based primary care training. She also has research interests in perinatal and reproductive health, including group prenatal care, interconception care, postpartum contraception, and prematurity prevention. She is an American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM) Distinguished Scholar and co-PI of the Family Medicine Residency Outcomes Project and the annual ABFM National Resident Survey (https://www.theabfm.org/research/national-resident-survey/).
