Research Summary

Our team investigates the relationship between substance use and chronic physical pain. We are developing an integrated treatment for both issues. Our group has been particularly interested in the demographic, personality, and treatment-related correlates of chronic physical pain. We have also investigated the treatments that patients seek to address their pain, including traditional biomedical interventions as well as complementary and alternative treatments. In addition, we study psychotherapists to learn about their experiences treating patients with chronic physical pain.

We are also very interested in the theory and practice of behavioral health interventions with Native American patients across the United States. Members of our group are committed to mentoring research trainees with interests in Native American Health.
