Foundations of Dialectical Behavior Therapy Summer Seminar

Co-instructed by Drs. Seth Axelrod and Suzanne Decker, and available to Yale and Yale-New Haven Hospital affiliated faculty, clinicians, and trainees each year during July and August. This seminar largely operates as a “flipped classroom” in which participants receive the majority of the course content through reading and media assignments, and then the three-hour weekly sessions emphasis experiential practice and feedback applying the major DBT principles, strategies, and methods.

On-line Dialectical Behavior Therapy Self-Study Course

Developed by Dr. Axelrod this self-study course organizes readings and medial that are freely available on the internet.

Psychology Fellowship

Each year we take two full-time psychology interns (fellows) with primary responsibilities in our Adult Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) General and Substance Use Disorder comprehensive DBT tracks. DBT Practicum Training

Each year we take approximately four part-time practicum clinicians who are currently enrolled in graduate school or residency programs. Training clinicians may come from psychology, social work, APRN, or psychiatry residency programs. Responsibilities are similar, but reduced from those describing our psychology fellowship.

Family Connections

We are proud to host NEA-BPD Family Connections Weekend Courses at YNHH. This course is primarily designed for loved ones of individual who struggle with severe emotional liability and behavioral dysregulation consistent; however, clinicians and mental health trainees are able to register as participant-observers of the training weekend. Marie-Paule de Valdivia, LCSW, oversees these trainings, which can lead to becoming Family Connections leaders.

Intervention

While YIELD does not directly provide clinical services, most of our faculty provide speciality treatments for emotional lability and dysregulation through our respective clinical and training programs, including Yale-New Haven Psychiatric Hospital, VA Connecticut Healthcare System, Connecticut Mental Health Center, and Yale Psychology Department Clinic, as well as in private and group practices that can be located within the DBT Provider Directory. We are not currently recruiting for treatment-related studies outside services already provided in these settings.

We are also proud to provide a developing DBT Provider Directory. Please encourage DBT providers to register their practices there to help expand the directory.
