About

Biography

After practicing pediatric radiology for 17 years, I began attending in the section of thoracic imaging 9 years ago. I maintain my enthusiasm for pediatric imaging by serving as a reviewer for 2 journals and Consulting Editor for CME for a major journal as well as by continuing to give resident lectures on pediatric topics. I have strived to carve out a niche for myself in a fairly narrow area of congenital malformations and their appearances in adulthood as well as in the appearance of diseases which previously were considered to be primarily diseases in children which are now seen in greater numbers in adults. My other strong interest is in developing curriculum for medical students in caring for patients with chronic disease and disability.

Research

Overview

As my clinical practice changed from pediatric imaging to adult thoracic imaging, my research interests have changed as well. I am currently involved in projects related to sickle cell disease as well as cystic fibrosis. The sickle cell project will involve defining the imaging characteristics of those patients whose discharge diagnosis was acute chest syndrome - location of airspace disease, need for imaging other than plain radiographs, coexistence of other pathologies.
