Ayibatari “Tari” Sikpi, MD, is a Connecticut native, having lived in central, eastern, and shoreline areas of the Nutmeg State. She decided to leave home for college, ultimately graduating from the University of Pittsburgh summa cum laude with a B.S. in Neuroscience and minors in Chemistry and Sociology. While at Pitt, Tari was a college tour guide for prospective students and their families. Upon leaving Pittsburgh, she returned to Connecticut and attended the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, where she was active in mentoring youth who aspired to health professional careers. While at UConn, Tari discovered a passion for psychiatry and matched to the Medical University of South Carolina, where she completed her general psychiatry residency. While in Charleston, Tari continued mentoring (this time, a local high school student) and led a monthly resident discussion group exploring the intersection of psychiatry with various topics including race, sexuality, and politics.
