Cliff Notes: From the Chair
Dear Yale Pediatrics Family,
With a new year around the corner, I hope you have some time this month to reflect on the past year. 2023 is filled with so many memories for me personally and as the Chair of this great department. Take some time to reflect on what you've accomplished, what you've learned, what you've enjoyed, and think about what you'd like most to do in 2024. Each year I am astounded when I look back at all we've done together in pursuit of helping children everywhere live their best, healthiest, happiest lives.
Wishing you very happy holidays with your loved ones & a wonderful, restful recess!
Warmly,
Cliff

Yale New Haven Health System’s (YNHHS) Office of Health Equity & Community Impact (OHECI) has launched the “We Ask Because We Care” campaign. This campaign supports the continued collection of accurate patient demographic data and examines awareness of how this data is critical to efforts to eliminate healthcare disparities. “In order for us to unpack the long-lasting disparities that we see in our country, it’s very important for us as a healthcare system to get to know our patients,” said Lou Hart, MD, medical director, Health Equity for YNHHS and assistant professor, pediatrics, Yale School of Medicine. “When it comes to disparities in terms of who has access to care, what type of care are they receiving inside the healthcare system and then what are their long-term health outcomes, without having this information on who our patents really are, we can’t determine if people are being treated differently or some patient groups are having worse outcomes from others”.

20 Nov 2023When is the best time to test for COVID-19 before holiday gatherings?
As the holiday season kicks off United States, so does another, less enjoyable winter tradition: respiratory virus season. Although COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations have been trending downward in recent weeks, experts anticipate infections will rise again, as they have for the last few winter seasons. Ahead of a potential surge driven by new COVID variants, health officials are urging Americans to get the updated COVID-19 vaccine to protect against serious disease outcomes.

Updates & Reminders
Yale Campus Health & Masking Updates
- Due to an increase in respiratory virus illness, there is a need to implement a higher tier of mask use in alignment with CDC core infection prevention and control practices. Across the enterprise, we have been in Code Yellow, which indicates that masking is recommended. On Wednesday, December 20, we will move to the initial tier of Code Red, which requires all physicians and employees to mask for patient interactions. For additional information, please read the attached update.

Zoom Rooms
Reminder: The Trask (LMP 3108) and LLCI 400 conference rooms have been upgraded to Zoom Rooms! This was done to standardize rooms across the University, improve functionality, enable room monitoring by IT, and allow for easy upgrades to the infrastructure in the future. Please note, ALL speakers will need to bring a laptop with them to the Zoom Rooms to be able to present. Save a copy of the instructions for these rooms here.
