On April 5, pediatricians gathered at Yale's West Campus to take part in a POCUS (point-of-care ultrasound) Workshop. With a goal of empowering participants to apply point-of-care ultrasound in the clinical setting to expedite timely diagnoses and management and to improve ultrasound guided procedural skills, nearly two dozen doctors attended the workshop. Attendees consisted of attendings, advanced practice providers (APPs), paramedics, residents and fellows, and represented a variety of specialties including neonatology, pediatric critical care, emergency medicine, hospital medicine.
Participants we able to practice hands-on scanning with children age 5-12 on one of five ultrasound machines. After the workshop, attendees told organizers, "This was a well thought out and comprehensive workshop that maximized time and space to deliver quality and informative education. All the speakers/educators were fantastic, enthusiastic, and made all of the information presented and demonstrated easily understood, manageable, and tangible."
The POCUS work shop was sponsored by the PEM POCUS (P2) Network, Yale New Haven Children's Hospital/Yale School of Medicine, and Connecticut Children's. Speakers and presenters included Drs. Julie Leviter, Sonali Bhalodkar, and Antionio Riera from Yale Pediatric Emergency Medicine.
