Channelle Carr, MD, pediatrics resident at Yale School of Medicine, was awarded the Resident Education Committee Award for Innovation in Medical Education by The North American Society for Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology (NASPAG). NASPAG, founded in 1986, is dedicated to providing multidisciplinary leadership in education, research, and gynecologic care to improve the reproductive health of youth.

The pilot study, titled, "Impact of a Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology Rotation on Confidence in Provision of Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health Services Among Pediatric Residents" hypothesized that a Pediatric Adolescent Gynecology (PAG) rotation will enhance pediatric residents’ attitude and comfort in providing sexual and reproductive healthcare to adolescent females. Because risky sexual behavior health sometimes results in outcomes including sexually transmitted infections and teen pregnancy, pediatricians can play a pivotal role in helping adolescents navigate this time during their development and provide resources and education to mitigate adverse outcomes.

After completing a survey and 1-2 PAG clinic sessions, participants' confidence score for providing sexual and reproductive healthcare and education to female adolescents rose from 57.3 to 62.0.

Congratulations to Dr. Carr!
