Submit Narratives For “Stories of Yale Internal Medicine” Medical Grand Rounds

February 05, 2020

You are encouraged to submit a narrative to the 4th Annual “Stories of Yale Internal Medicine” Medical Grand Rounds, which will be held on Thursday, June 11, 2020.

For the past three years, a June Medical Grand Rounds has been devoted to the telling of provocative stories relevant to internal medicine. Yale medical students, house staff, chief residents, allied health providers, full time faculty and community faculty have all participated. This year, we are also encouraging submissions by nursing and PA students who work in our department to submit stories for consideration. This special Grand Rounds illustrates the power of narrative storytelling as an educational tool for physicians, both as storytellers and listeners, and the selected stories serve as springboards for discussion during Grand Rounds and beyond.

This year’s “Stories of Yale Internal Medicine” Medical Grand Rounds will take place on June 11, 2020. We will feature up to six stories intended to represent profound personal experiences related to training or a career in Internal Medicine. These experiences can include, but are not limited to, an encounter with a patient or family, power dynamics in medicine, a medical error, issues of scientific discovery, or provocative moments in human interactions.

You are invited to submit a written nonfiction story of 1200 words or less by Thursday, March 26, 2020. Your narrative should be more than an anecdote – it should tell a story. Previously published work is not eligible, and we will consider only one story per individual.

Email your story as an attachment to Roberta Biceglia with the email subject line stating “MEDICAL GRAND ROUNDS STORY.”

Selected presenters will be notified by mid-April 2020.

If you have a question prior to the submission date, please email Vincent Quagliarello, MD.
