Collaborative Excellence in Pediatrics

We strive to create an inclusive environment within our department.

Our activities are varied and have included:

• Welcoming events for new staff and trainees
• Educational faculty training activities
• Workshops such as Ouch! That Stereotype Hurts and Defeating Unconscious Bias
• Seminar series on bias in the workplace with residents
• Getting to know your community through food events

The Yale Pediatric Resident Collaborative Excellence Council is an organization comprised of a group of residents, with the support of the Vice Chair of Collaborative Excellence n as well as the pediatric department, who seek to promote diversity and inclusivity within the pediatrics residency and the wider Yale New Haven Children's Hospital. Our goal is to support housestaff through their residency journey and to ally with the local community to motivate and encourage the next generation of healthcare providers.

The council offers workshops, trainings, hosts dinners and happy hours, and assists in recruitment efforts and community outreach initiatives including events introducing kids to careers in health care.

Health Equity Rounds (HER) is a longitudinal, case-based conference series that aims to dissect the “whys” of a clinical story, with the goal of identifying solutions that can improve future care.

HER was developed by trainees in the Department of Pediatrics at Boston Medical Center and has been adopted at several other medical centers (Children's National, Duke University, Massachusetts General Hospital for Children and Boston Children's Hospital).
