Biography
As a urogynecologist, Dr. Sarah Andiman diagnoses and treats women with pelvic floor disorders including urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse (uncomfortable or painful vaginal bulge), fecal incontinence, bladder pain, and genital tract fistulas. She is board-certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and in Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery.
She studied photography as undergraduate at Rhode Island School of Design and went on to work as a photography teacher and photographer's assistant. However, she found she missed science and ultimately returned to school, earning her medical degree at Brown University. She returned to her home state of Connecticut to complete her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Yale School of Medicine, and then completed a fellowship in Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery at Mount Sinai in New York City. During her medical training, she participated in various research activities and international projects in Cambodia, Rwanda, Tanzania and the Dominican Republic. She has presented her original research at national academic meetings and published in numerous peer-reviewed journals.
Dr. Andiman is skilled in minimally invasive surgery, including vaginal, laparoscopic and robotic surgical approaches. She is aware that urogynecologic issues are often very personal and upsetting, and can be uncomfortable to discuss. She believes that her role is to provide patients with thorough information and expert and compassionate care so that they are supported and empowered to make the choices that are best for them.
She is an active member of the Society of Gynecologic Surgeons and the American Urogynecologic Society. Her ongoing research interests include female pelvic anatomy, patient education and solutions to improve surgical quality and outcomes.
