Clinical Shadowing Opportunities for Students in their PhD Years

April 13, 2022

BRING an MD-PhD STUDENT to WORK DAY is a new initiative to give current MD-PhD students the opportunity to gain familiarity with different clinical specialties by shadowing Yale physican-scientists.

Physician-scientists from the among our alumni, MSTP faculty, Intraurban Clinical Club and Janeway Scholars have been invited to participate in this program as a clinical mentor to students who are currently in the PhD training phase. These students have completed the YSM pre-clerkship curriculum, 1-2 blocks of clerkship rotations, and are currently in the lab completing doctoral thesis research. Many have asked for opportunities to meet and shadow physician-scientists as a way to build a network of clinical mentors by spending a half- or full day with faculty in various specialties and sub-specialties at Yale.

This week I shadowed Dr. [Janeway Scholar] … and it was such a wonderful experience. She was an awesome clinician to follow, and it was interesting to hear from her perspective 'switching' research fields…[and how] she is in the process of trying to establish herself as an expert in her field.
