MD-PhD Student Fellowships Funded in 2020

Guiding students on how to develop a well-reasoned scientific proposal based on a rigorous scientific premise, and to apply these lessons to preparing a successful fellowship application is the focus of a two-part workshop given three times a year by Fred Gorelick and Reiko Fitzsimonds. Working closely with the students and their PIs, we delve into detailed strategies for developing clear and concise specific aims, identifying relevant new learning experiences, enumerating short- and long-term career goals, and responding to reviewer critiques – skills that are foundational for successful proposal development now and for their future careers as physician-scientists. Our students have remarkable success rates in NRSA F30 and F31 applications, largely exceeding individual NIH institute benchmarks with an overall success rate of 63% in the years between 2010-2018. 2020 was no exception to this success--congratulations to the following students:
