The MATE Act requires new or renewing DEA licensees, as of June 27, 2023, to have completed a total of at least 8 hours of training on opioid or other substance use disorders and the appropriate treatment of pain. The Yale Program in Addiction Medicine has prepared a web resource that lists selected free trainings offering CME credits that clinicians may use to satisfy DEA training requirements.

Resources for Safer Injection and Substance Use, or SaferSubstanceUse.org, was developed and is maintained by faculty and staff of the Yale Program in Addiction Medicine in affiliation with the Yale New Haven Hospital Multidisciplinary Endocarditis Evaluation Team (MEET) and informed by people with lived experience of injection drug use. The website provides information for patients and clinicians about safer substance use practices and infection prevention. This work is funded by the Yale New Haven Hospital Medical Staff Fund. The funder does not inform, contribute to, or otherwise provide oversight of the content of this website.

The Yale Program in Addiction Medicine and affiliated partners make available several free, online webinar series with archived recordings.

The Confronting the Drug War roundtable series, hosted by the Substance Use and COVID-19 Data Collaborative alongside the UCLA Center for Social Medicine, Yale Program in Addiction Medicine, School of Advanced Studies in the Social Sciences Program D3S, National Survivors Union, Drug Policy Alliance, and FORE Foundation, invites activists who use drugs and harm reduction researchers to a discussion about reforming drug use policy, deconstructing the disease model of addiction, and alternate ways of thinking about drug use.

The Curbsiders Addiction Medicine podcast uses expert interviews to demystify common addiction medicine topics, reduce stigma, and inspire listeners to be advocates for all individuals who use substances. This mini-series, hosted by Carolyn Chan, MD, MHS (Yale Addiction Medicine Fellowship ’23), Shawn Cohen, MD, Kenny Morford, MD, Natalie Stahl, MD, MPH (Yale Addiction Medicine Fellowship ’22), and friends aims to help listeners bring evidence-based addiction medicine treatment into all clinical settings and provide tips on integrating harm reduction into clinical practice. Listening to the Curbsiders Addiction Med Podcast episodes and completing the CME associated with the episode can count towards the one time, 8-hour DEA CME requirements on substance use disorder training, newly required by the MATE Act.

The Yale Program in Addiction Medicine, with generous support from the Sandgaard Foundation, hosted a free webinar series, Finding Solutions to the Opioid Crisis, from June through December 2021. This series welcomed a multidisciplinary line-up of speakers addressing priority issues in addiction treatment and recovery.

Yale Addiction Medicine Grand Rounds are held virtually on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month. Presentations are open to the public and cover a range of topics relevant to Addiction Medicine including current research, innovations in education and training, as well as clinical practice Register to attend via registration links available on the event page for each session or receive access details directly to your inbox by signing up for the Yale Program in Addiction Medicine listserv. Rounds are accredited by the AMA at 1 credit per session for eligible live attendees.
