Overview
Nofrat Schwartz, MD, is a head and neck surgeon (otolaryngologist) with specialty training in neurotology. She treats diseases that affect the middle ear, inner ear, balance system, and skull base.
Dr. Schwartz was initially drawn to the surgical field during her medical education because of its proactive nature. “I enjoy being able to proactively change the course of disease. When I first encountered the ear, nose, and throat specialty I was immediately amazed by it,” she says. “The complexity of head and neck anatomy and surgery is unparalleled. I also found the ENT allows you to enjoy both the clinical and surgical worlds to help find the best tailored treatment for your patient. Specifically, the ear and hearing always fascinated me. There is so much we don’t yet completely understand about the delicate hearing and balance systems and I find that drives me even more to try and expand our knowledge .”
Dr. Schwartz performs middle ear surgery, which includes prosthetics to reconstruct the hearing system, cochlear implants, and procedures for chronic ear diseases. She also does skull base surgeries for tumors and other pathologies.
“Being able to restore someone’s hearing is a true blessing,” Dr. Schwartz says. “Often, people struggle with depression and isolation when they can’t hear. Helping them connect with the world again is an amazing privilege. Hearing older patients say they now can hear and communicate with their grandchildren is incredibly satisfying.”
