    Biography

    Leah L. Booth, M.A., CCC-SLP

    Leah Booth is a speech-language pathologist on the faculty of the Yale Child Study Center. Ms. Booth has worked with children and adults with a range of communication disorders for over 20 years. In her early career, she worked in special education schools, and then she spent 10 years working with children with developmental disabilities within an integrated school setting. Ms. Booth joined the Yale Child Study Center in 2003.Since that time, she has been part of multidisciplinary evaluation teams and has provided treatment to individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder and other developmental disabilities as well as consultation to parents and members of school teams in how to support social and communication development in individuals with ASD and other disabilities. Ms. Booth also serves as clinical supervisor for research focusing on Pivotal Response Training (PRT), a treatment aimed at improving social-communication skills for persons with ASD.

    Ms. Booth’s specific areas of expertise include: communication evaluation; development of practical and measurable social and communication objectives; school consultation; family consultation; development of school programs; and teaching students, parents and teachers to employ visual strategies and technological tools as means to improved social and communication skills. Ms. Booth also has extensive expertise in developing Individualized Education Programs (IEP).

    Ms. Booth lectures in undergraduate and medical school courses at Yale University on speech, language, and social communication development. She has consulted with a number of schools and universities on how to support their students with ASD, and she has given numerous workshops to parents and professionals on how to foster social communication skills. She has presented these workshops nationally and internationally. Ms. Booth has also written several chapters within edited works on assessment of communication and social communication development.

    Leah Booth, MA, CCC (SLP), is a speech-language pathologist who specializes in pediatric speech pathology. She focuses on helping children with communication challenges, including those with autism spectrum disorder and other developmental disabilities.

    Booth works with children and their families to assess communication skills, set realistic goals, and develop strategies to improve social and language development using practical tools and visual aids.     As an instructor of clinical speech pathology at Yale School of Medicine, Booth is involved in research on interventions that encourage social communication in children with autism, such as therapies designed to increase their ability to interact and communicate effectively. She lectures on speech, language, and social communication development to both undergraduate and medical students.
