Nineteen people will join residency programs affiliated with the Yale Department of Psychiatry.
Sixteen trainees will join the adult psychiatry residency as first-year residents (including two in the Neuroscience Research Training Program); two will join the Solnit Integrated Residency in Child and Adult Psychiatry, a joint venture with the Yale Child Study Center; and one will join the adult psychiatry residency as a second-year resident.
"We’ve matched a group of extremely talented and humanistic individuals," said Robert Rohrbaugh, MD, professor of psychiatry, deputy chair for education and career development, and residency program director. "To give you a sense of their potential, four of the sixteen are graduating AOA and three were voted by their classmates to receive the Gold Humanism Award. The incoming interns are well prepared to take advantage of the academic opportunities available in the department, with three members earning MD/PhD degrees and four others also having completed graduate degrees. With two other MD/PhD’s matching with the Solnit program, half of our incoming interns have completed graduate degrees.
"This is also a wonderfully diverse class with an equal number of men and women, six members of the class who identify as coming from minority groups who are underrepresented in medicine (African American, Hispanic, or Native American), and three who identify as Asian," he said. We have class members from all regions of the US and the incoming interns bring a wide range of interests within our field including neuroscience, psychodynamics, and social justice."
